LBR ?????? on strings
I made my first flemish string tonight. The whole process was easier than I figured but I have a question. On the finished string how do you trim the little ends that managed to not braid in where ya finish the loops off?Just cut them as close as possible?Anyone thinking of trying to make a string its dag gone neat to see a bow strung with a string you made yourself and if I can figure it out anyone can lol Now to see how it holds up to use (fingers and toes crossed)

RE: LBR ?????? on strings
On dacron, I use a large pair of nail clippers. On 450+ or Dynaflight, it takes a razor knife (I use and Exacto). Ain't that hard now is it? Lol

Chad,
I use those little stick outs as an indicator. I wax them down when I put the string on the bow and when they they start to pop up again, I know it's time to rewax. Dick |
RE: LBR ?????? on strings
I use my old fly tying scissors on dacron. They don't cut hair and hackle as good as they should, but they're good for bowstring thread. I agree with Chad about using a sharp knife for the super string materials. A lot of the time, especially on a string for an old clunker bow, I do like Dick and don't even mess with trimming the tag ends.

RE: LBR ?????? on strings
Carl, I suspect that it wouldn't do any good for silencers since it's so close to the ends of the string. As I understand it, you need the silencer closer to the "active" part of the string, where it vibrates more.
As for trimming the little ends... I use a pair of good quality thread trimming scissors made for commercial work. I have it on good authority from the fellow who taught me how to make strings that nail trimmers are the way to go. Guy |
RE: LBR ?????? on strings
I just use regular scissors and wax them down after. Like Dick when the little 1/8" or whatever's left starts sticking up I know it's time to wax my strng.
