AMAZING DISCOVERY IMPROVES ACCURACY

Sounds like a Ronco commercial doesn't it? Today while practicing I was as usual all over the place. My groups at 20yds were about 10". I really want to do better. Well, at some point I started closing my left eye and what a difference. When shooting my compound I always shot with both eyes open and always have when shooting a trad bow as well. I don't know what made me close my eye. The first 5 arrow group I shot after closing my eye was about 5". I continued to shoot for about 1/2 an hour with consistant results. The best shooting I have ever done with the recurve. At 20 my groups on my 3-d deer target stayed in the vitals. I am pleased.

my guess would be that when you went from shhoting with both eyes open to just one eye would be that....your mentality changed because you tried something you dont normally do.

what im getting at is that your level of intensity and focus probably increased when you changed your form....aproach your shhoting with greater intensity/focus when you have both eyes open and you probably would see the same results....

sometimes i get in the habit of just tossing arrowsand thats not good...the most important arrow to me when practicing is the very first one released after thatsometimes idont care as much and i just toss them, i need to start catching myself when ido that...i need to get into the habit of increasing my intensity and focus thoughout my whole session and start shooting every arrow with purpose. like its my first shot, every time i practice.

i missed the second "n" in intensity(intesity) every time i typed it so i had to go back and fix it in every post...lol wheres spellcheck.:D

the Tricky thing about focus is that, it doesnt work if your thinking about focus....does that make sense? if your thinking about it thats called "trying hard"...."trying hard" doesnt work with shooting orsay a starting pitcher in the majors, "trying hard" gets the bases loaded. or in golf trying hard usually ends up in a Choke Phil Mickleson style on the 18th hole.

Focus is a subconscious thing....when you have it you wont even realize it....sometimes its refered to as the "ZONE"

when i shoot really good...after the session i'll think about what i did...andwhat happens isi start out very intense about what my goal is.... and after the first 3 arrows i settle in and relax thats when the subconscious comes into play and shooting becomes effortless...usually i dont even remember shooting the shotsuntilli run out of arrows and realize im shooting....its just automatic....Focus my friends....

if im shooting bad imjust tossing arrows and thinking about lunch or my Girl or the game last night or imtalking to my buddysjust kicking it around....definately not mind-less therefore shooting poorly.

with all my babble abovein mind i think that if i aproach every shot with purpose and intensity eventually i'll always relax and Focus during the session...andshoot good.

THanks Tex fortriggeringme to write out what i already knew but never really said anything about...maybee it will help someone.

Yeah, I hope that someone is me. I think the change in form forced me to concentrate. I'll have to remember the focus thing.

Ive tried one eye, but it does the opposite for me. Ive always done better with both eyes open and shooting instinctively. I have to get my trads out. I put them up two months ago after my last hog hunt and havent pulled them out since. I really need to get out and shoot some fish, that is before they all head to deep water.

To quote a line from the movie The Patriot "Aim Small, Miss Small"

one eye closed = loss of periphreal vision and all depth perceptions meaning you cannot judge unknown distances nearly as well and you lose 1/3 your total area of view I think it is

I wouldn't advise hunting like that.

Maybe you are the wrong eye dominant for the hand that you shoot the bow.....left eye dominant on a right handed shot. Thatmight explain one eye being better.
