Building a Target?
I have been watching as the target prices continue to climb to incredible prices, and just can't see paying $80 for a target. It is just a bunch of foam! Anyway, I shoot a compound with carbon arrows, and was wondering if anyone out there has a good idea for building a target?
Thanks! Byron Johnston County, NC Hunting the Tarheel State! - NC |
RE: Building a Target?
30 years ago we used to make targets from paper machette (sp?) They work well for the average shooter but if you can really group your arrows in the kill, it will need constant repair. Dick

RE: Building a Target?
Here's a couple that I have done.
Take a 100# feed bag, and fill it with old clothes, pack it tight, and tie it closed. (works good) If you live near a boat building company, have them fill up whatever sized box you want with foam. I have a BIG box full of the spray foam, and it works great, and lasts a long time. Also, if you keep your eyes open, you can get rolls of the foam just like what is used to make the Block, and the Black Hole. Log home builders use alot of the stuff. Usually you can pick up a partial used roll for a few bucks, and them make your own Block target. And, if you live near a window company, you can fill a large bag with nylon screen scraps. Pack it tight. You will be able to remove your arrows with 2 fingers. Hope this helps you out. Kip |
RE: Building a Target?
Plastic grocery bags made a good stuffing--light and waterproof--but it takes a lot of them.

RE: Building a Target?
If you want a stationary target try taking 4 pieces of angle iron 2 on bottom with a piece of all rod running up through the 2 on top stack card board as high as ya wantbetween them and compress it down with the all rod.Works well and its easy to replace the cardboard as needed.just my .02
