String Help

I am very new to recurves and I purchased one from my neighbor who knows about the same about them as I do, which is nothing. It is a 58" 45-50 lb. and it doesnt have a string I would like to order one but I dont know what size to get. So, can someone tell me how to figure this out, or what do you figure in to come up with the proper string length. And, is there anything on the net that can guide me thru the process of starting out with a recurve. any info would be great.

CHAD! :D

Seriously.......I just got my string order from Chad today (LBR) and they are sweet strings.
I picked up a couple Flemish twist for a couple recurves and 1 for a longbow.

Anyway in your case, when in doubt stay with a Dacron string (I'm guessing its an older model bow?) chances are it is probably not compatible with the low stretch materials like Fast Flight etc which could damage your bow.
If your bow is marked 58" AMO you will want a string length approx 4" shorter than that.
Get in touch with Chad, tell him what exactly the bow is and I would definitely recommend one of his flemish twist strings for it.

The string will stretch quite a bit initially so you will need to chase your brace height for a bit until it settles some. See if you can find out what the manufacturer recommends for a brace height for that bow as well. You will be able twist the string length accordingly to keep it at the point you want........as the string stretches your brace height will shorten.

If your bow is 58" long; I've heard to choose a string 2" shorter than your bow. At least... that's what I've heard.

Longbows are usually 3" shorter than OAL and recurves are 4" shorter

I get 3" shorter for all bows that is amo and works great, easy to twist but hard to lengthen:-)
