New Bow
I just got this last week and finally got to give it a good work out.62" Hill Half Breed,57#@28".Yew on the back and belly and 3 lams of bamboo(normally they have 2 lams of 'boo). It's kinda differant seeing a Hill bow this short, but this is such a sweet shooting and one of the nicest looking Hills I've ever seen. And handshock?Nope-haven't been kicked yet by it:D

RE: New Bow
Pretty bow Jim, nice contrast! I was gonna say I thought the Hill bows were typically like 70"?
How do you shoot that style bow with what looks like no grip throat? Is hand placement a little funky? |
RE: New Bow
NICE.......Hope I can get back to shootin my recurve and longbow....

ORIGINAL: Matt / PA Pretty bow Jim, nice contrast! I was gonna say I thought the Hill bows were typically like 70"? How do you shoot that style bow with what looks like no grip throat? Is hand placement a little funky? The grip is slightly dished. It's actually perfect for me.No matter how I grab it,I get perfect hand placement and there's no torquing the riser-the grip is just dead on.My one Hill has a locator grip and that's real nice but I prefer the dished personally--that's just what works for me |
RE: New Bow
Very nice looking bow Jim! Craig is a terrific Bowyer! :)
|
RE: New Bow
Jim, when did Craig start running the belly lamination down the riser?
Thenewest HH the I have was made in 2004 and it still doesn't have that. Or is it unique to your model? |
RE: New Bow
Not sure,Bob.This is a 2006 bow as are my 2 Wesleys and they're the same
|
RE: New Bow
That's interesting.
Here is a pic of my 04 Wesley made by Craig, you can see the lamination design differences. ![]() |
RE: New Bow
Ok-here's my 2 Wesley's.The one with the clear glass has a lam coming down over the riser. The black glass has just straight lams down the back of the bow.The clear Wes was made last summer and the black Wes (I emailed the guy I bought it off of)was made a few years ago.

RE: New Bow
The clear glass one also has overlays on the riser back--something you don't see too often.

RE: New Bow
That's cool,English! Remember though-you gotta post pics of it when ya get it;)

RE: New Bow
Jim FWIW, here is an e-mail I received from Craig:
Bob:Unless otherwise requested, we will always put all of the lams behind the riser with one exception. If an individual wants clear glass, we will then run one lam up the riser. Otherwise, you would see the ends of the riser at the fadeouts and they aren't always even across because of having to fade them out to nothing. The Tembo is the only one that will have one lam up the riser with colored glass because of the model.Let me know if you have any other questions. Craig |
RE: New Bow
Very interesting-that was something I didn't know.Thanks Bob!

RE: New Bow
My brother shoots his longbows with that type of grip.It works for him but it's a little awkward for me.I get a little more hand on it and like Bob,I get a higher grip with a 1 o'clock cant.I like that arrow right on top of my hand.

RE: New Bow
JimPic, I'm trying to order a recurve this Monday (April 9th.) I'll try to post pictures of it when it's delivered. The recurve I'm ordering it has no shooting shelf, you shoot it off of your knuckle when ya' shoot it. I might buy me some arrows too. I'm not 100% if I'll shoot Carbons or Cedars. I found some nice arrows on the website that I'm gonna order that recurve out of. How does your longbow shoot? I'll tell y'all how the recurve shoots when I get it delivered.

RE: New Bow
The longbows shoot great,EH !!:DRemember,if you're right-handed shooting off the knuckle--make sure you get your arrows with left wing feathers

RE: New Bow

I haven't got to shoot it yet, I haven't got a bowstringer yet . I can't wait until I do get to shoot it. I'll tell y'all how it shoots when I get to shoot it.EnglishHope |
