New to the game

Well I posted about this in the bowhunting forum, but most of those guys theredont get the feeling we do when it comes to traditional bowhunting. I'm 17 and have been bowhunting for 4 years. All 4 years i have used a compound bow, but decided to give my dads old recurve a try. This bow is his Fred Bear Alaskan from when he was my age, lets just say there is a lot of history behind this bow;). He also has 8 cedar arrows made by Browning, with 145 gr. Fred Bear broadheads on them.Even though I doubt I will not use these arrows,(unless you guys think they are still shootable) I will still buy some new cedar along with some cheap arrows to just get the feeling of the new bow. I hope to hunt this year with this bow, and have a lot of fun practicing in the process. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Those arrows might be worth a little money-especially them being in the original box.I know those old Bear Razorheads bring in a few bucks too.I'd probably opt for new arrows and heads.I still use the Bear Razorheads on occassion--real nice broadheads
ps--if that's the original string,I'd get a new one for it,too

It's always fun to shoot a bow with some history. ;)

I'd agree with Jim about everything. And make sure you get a dacron string.

Right here. PM LBR (moderator). I buy all my strings from him. His website is:

1st - sell those arrows/broadheads on EBAY and use the money to buy some carbons
2nd - get LBR to make you a string
3rd - shoot your bow :) ........

Shooting trad (to me) is dicipline. You have to be very diciplined to draw, anchor, focus, release the same way EVERY TIME. Doing so will result in good groups. Very pretty old Bear you got there - it wants to be taken into the woods, you know that, right ? :D

I dont thinkI am going to sell the arrows/broadheads. I think its kinda cool to have something my dad had and used and I would like to keep them in the family. I am going to order a string, just need to talk to my dad first(he has the credit card[8D]). And, you have no idea how bad I want to shoot this, I just want to get some good arrows and a string first. And once I get good enough, I will reintroduce the bow to the woods after ~25 yrs of seperation:).
