Holy cow, 2018 with a 1716 sleeved. Thats one way of getting spine.
Dr. Ashby did similar things. Sometimes up to three alumimums. He was looking to get a heavy spine with a small diameter. I believe he posted a bunch of this type of stuff on tradgang at one time.

Bigcountry, it sounds like TJ is a "big" guy but it really isn't all size. I shoot tournaments with my 80# bows and my son shoots them with his 80# longbow. Both of us shoot this weight at our draw lengths. I'm a 52 yr. old hefty 157# guy and my son is a 28 yr. old whopping 135#. It all depends on what you want to shoot and then practice getting there. Years ago an old timer "even older than me" told me you'll never learn to shoot a 60# bow by shooting a 40# bow. I took it to heart and just kept moving up until I hit a weight I liked and was comfortable with.

I guess those days are over for me. I can't risk losing my rotator any more.

best recurve I ever owned/shot was a Silvertip

I got if off EBAY BIN for $750, 2 sets of limbs, dymondwood (which I don't like) and 58" ....... a 52# and 56# set of limbs, FF

Those 56# limbs outshot anything I've owned. I really shot it well, and of course, like all but one of the bows I owned, I traded it for something else.

I've looked for another and haven't gotten one yet. The FF is better than the non-FF IMO

Big c,
I do a lot of Upright rows, trap crunches, rear delt work and lots of upper back work, and use a BOWFIT gismo while supersetting my rear delt excersizes, Yeah 2018's with 1716's inside are a real hammer !

I have been working on pullups, and upright rows, not exactly sure what trap crunches are. Is that like shoulder swrugs? I know I work out on a butterfly machine too. I can feel it in my back.

I think if I work out carefully around the rotator, I can strengthen without hurting any more, cause it hasn't hurt me in over 2 months.
