Building your own bow??

I am very interested in making a long bow out of some osage orange. I was wondering if anyone has ever made a bow by hand and if they had any tips on doing so. Are there any good books out there that show you how? Anything will help, thanks for the suggestions.

A dull draw knife isa must. Pick up a copy of "The traditional bowyers bible volume 1". A great read and very informative.

Choosing a good dryed osage stave will help as well.

All three volumes of the "Traditional Bowyers Bible" are nice to have around.

Plus Dean Torge's "Hunting the Osage Bow". http://www.bowyersedge.com/

George Tsoukalas' site has all kinds of excellent info. http://mysite.verizon.net/georgeandjoni/archer.html

Old Master Crafters in Waukegan, IL now has glued up laminated recurves that just need to be shaped and finished... might be a good place to start...

the Strunk Brothers at Mystyk Stick longbows have roughed in staves of osage that just need to be finished and tillered...
