Building your own bow??
I am very interested in making a long bow out of some osage orange. I was wondering if anyone has ever made a bow by hand and if they had any tips on doing so. Are there any good books out there that show you how? Anything will help, thanks for the suggestions.

RE: Building your own bow??
A dull draw knife isa must. Pick up a copy of "The traditional bowyers bible volume 1". A great read and very informative.
Choosing a good dryed osage stave will help as well. |
RE: Building your own bow??
All three volumes of the "Traditional Bowyers Bible" are nice to have around.
Plus Dean Torge's "Hunting the Osage Bow". http://www.bowyersedge.com/ George Tsoukalas' site has all kinds of excellent info. http://mysite.verizon.net/georgeandjoni/archer.html |

Old Master Crafters in Waukegan, IL now has glued up laminated recurves that just need to be shaped and finished... might be a good place to start...
the Strunk Brothers at Mystyk Stick longbows have roughed in staves of osage that just need to be finished and tillered... |
