Arrow speed
So I'm a newbie used to a compound that shoots 305 fps, I just bought a old Fred Beaar Kodiak 50# 28 inchdraw, 52 inch AMO (what does AMO mean?)
What kind of arrow speeds does a traditional bow like this shoot? |
RE: Arrow speed
52" AMO is used for string length. AMO is american manufactures Org.
With a real clean release, you could expect 175fps with a 550gr arrow. Maybe faster. Bad release can slow it down. |

RE: Arrow speed
One mind set you have to over come is arrow speed. I know, a compound shooter is alway's thinking how fast does my arrow fly to a target. But, in traditional archery, you are more concerned with proper arrow spine and proper arrow weight. A good shooting recurve at 55#'s with 10 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight can get 170fps. A longbow at the same specifications should do around 150 to 160 fps.
