Arrow combination question
Im in the process of getting a new Black Widow longbow within the next 2 weeks. Im currently shooting Axis 340 grain arrows with 100gr broadheads to compliment my PSE Vengeance at 60 pounds. My question is this; Will Axis 340s be an effective combination coming out of a 50# longbow? Im just getting into traditional archery so please bare with my simple questions.
Thanks,
Jake

RE: Arrow combination question
If you're going to stick with that shaft you are going to have to load the point up pretty heavy, which in my opinion is the way to go anyway. I am shooting a #52 long bow and a #51 recurve with an AD Trad Heavy (which spines in around 80#) but I'm shooting it with a 200gr broadhead and 29.5" long. Length of the arrow will obviously play a factor as well and your draw length.I've been toying with going to the Axis 340 myself and trying to get the nose up to about 250-275 grains. Bareshaft the arrows and you will know for sure where you stand... Just my .02

RE: Arrow combination question
I agree with mshane. You will have to load the point weight to 250 grains or more. But, they may never fly right if they are cut too short. The Axis cut to 28" spines at 76#'s. A longbow isn't as forgiving in arrow spine as a recurve. You may also try shooting cock feather in. This may help reduce feather contact with the shelf/strike plate. If using a fast flight material string, you may be okay. It will increase the spine weight of arrow you will need.
