longbow to recurve???
 

I have been shooting longbows and just got a checkmate 56" hunter takedown recurve and no matter what shaft I try it shoots about 7 inches right at 20 yards.I tried 2018's 2117's and 2219's all group well and they all group together but they are all consistently 7 inches right.The bow is smooth as silk with no finger pinch and seems really fast.Anyone have an idea how to correct the shooting right problem or is that just the difference between longbows and recurves and I will have to relearn? Try holding the bow more vertical. My buddy has a hunter I and it shoots about a foot to the right for me. I hold it more vertical and it seems to lesson the problem. Not sure if this will help or not. Good luck.

Good advice from Josh.I mostly hunt with recurves but do shoot and hunt with my longbows occassionally.What i found is that when shooting LB's,I have to can't the bow a little-with my curve's,I'm holding almost vertically.Good luck!

If you're a righthander, you maybe need to push a little harder at the target with your bowhand. You may not be used to how the bow pulls and you're pulling your bowarm to the right a little bit when you draw the string back.

I hate to be the one to say it, but it's always gonna shoot to the right. Most all recurves are cut to/past center, and most longbows are around 1/8" off center.
Try this: grip the bow tightly when you shoot. That should gain you about 4" at the range you quote. You can also glue a strand of leather shoelace in the sight window. If you plan to be a "recurve guy" vs longbow, just shoot it like it is and in about a month, all your longbows will shoot left!

I like John's answer the best! If you place your whole hand with heel pressure against the grip as with your longbows, you will almost always torque your recurve. The fact that you are shooting tight groups probably shows that you are consistent with your torque (as with your longbows). Most recurves (in my humble experience) perform best with minimal/no heel contact. Try drawing with only the "V" portion of your bow hand between your thumb and forefinger, concentrating the pressure of your draw in this small area, keeping the heel of your hand and your remaining three fingers off the bow.

After shooting the longbow, this may feel awkward at first. Stay with it for a few sessions to give your metacarpal muscles a chance to strengthen.

well I am dialed in with the 56 recurve and absolutley love it.John I believe you hit the nail on the head lol.I took my longbows out today and missed the whole target first 2 shots went way left.I suppose I could biuld the strike plate out to match the longbows but this bow is so nice the way it is that all my longbows hit the classifieds today and I will buy another 56 hunter for a backup.Anyone looking for a really nice short recurve you owe it to yourself to give the checkmate 56" a look.I appreciate everyones input Thanks Troy
