New guy question

I'm new to archery and just purchased a used recurve bow with which to get started. 58" 45 lb @ 28". I'm hoping to be proficient enough to deer hunt next year. My draw length is between 28-29 inches. For what length arrow should I be looking? Broadhead recommendations? Total weight? Thanks to all.

I don't know what material you are looking for. But always start with an arrow that is about two inches past the riser whilel you are at full draw. Youmay need to tune the arrow to the bow and arrow legth is one variable that can be used in tuning.

RE: New guy question

I like to use a longer arrow that will give me a shorter gap at normal hunting distances.... It will take some time playing with different shafts to figure out what you need.

I like to hunt with cut on contact heads, usually Magnus2 blade, but I have been playing with 3 blade Sonic heads lately.

Arrow weight usually around 9 - 10 grains per pound of draw is what I use.

The best thing to do is go to a pro shop that has someone with some knowledge on trad bows. Then draw the bow and get your draw length measured because it will be different than what it is shooting a compound generally shorter. When it comes to arrows I would get a few different sizes and start shooting them at full length and cut off like a 1/4" at a time until they are grouping well. Once you find the arrow that groups the best I would bare shaft to see if they still group with the fletched ones that way you know for sure you got the best shooting arrows. As far as arrow weight 500+grains is my preference. Good luck.

I started with full lenght 50/55 ceders,and like bushman said,only cut a 1/4 off at a time.I shoot 50#@28 and ended up 293/4 BOP.
