Arrow dilemma suggestions
 

Alright guys, not sure if you all read my post before it got deleted or not, but here is what happened. I was shooting some Beman 340's that were 30" long, and shooting pretty true. I cut them down to 28 1/2" and now I think decreasing the length made them too stiff. They don't fly very true at all.I know, I know "if it ain't broke don't fix it." So I tried some heavier tips and it helped a little but I would like to shoot 125gr. heads just because of the availability of most heads in 125's.

Anyway, here is my deal. I think that I want to start over completely with new arrows and such. I kind of want to go to Aluminums, but I want to make sure I get the correct spine. I'm also open to suggestions as to why I should stick with carbons.

I'm thinking about 2117's or 2314's for alum's. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to stay with the 125gr head,you can use 100gr brass inserts.That will soften the spine up a bit.Also,as for the aluminums--what's your draw wgt.?

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that I'm shooting right around 50-52 lbs. 60" recurve.

Jim, is there a good way to remove my inserts? I used insert epoxy, not hot glue. Thanks

A2016 should shoot decent for you--I'm shooting 2014's off a 48# longbow and I've shot 2016's off my 53# recurve with real good flight.I never used epoxy for inserts so I don't know if heating a insert with a fieldpoint on it would loosen it up or not.I've gotten inserts out that were glued in with Power-Bond(that stuff really sets up)already.

add the yellow weight tubes - about 100 grains per arrow added weight and I don't care what people say, it affects spine or at least it does in my bow.

I shoot 52# and I use ICS 500 shafts with yellow tube insters, 125 grain head and a total weight of arounf 540 I think

I use the wgt.tubes in my carbons just to get the overall wgt. of the shaft up.The only real differance I noticed is the noise.They're definitely quieter with the tubes in.

I'm not too familiar with the weight tubes, how are they installed?

I slide them in at the nock end.They're like long soda straws and come in 2gr/inch and 3gr/inch.

Well, I got it figured out. Last night I went to the local shop and got a few different sized aluminums cut to size and I shot them with my carbons when I got home. I tried 2216, 2117, 2314, 2016, and my Carbons. I tossed the worst performing arrow each round. The 2314 went first. When I got to 3 arrows it was my carbon, the 2216, and the 2117. The 2216 went next and the beman and the 2117 were actually flying pretty well. I added a 15 grain broadhead adapter ring to my Magnus 2-blade and it's flying very well now. So needless to say, I'll save the dough until these are gone and then I'll make a change. Thanks for all the help and I will be checking out the weight tubes just for some added Wop!
