Habu Bows??
 

I am looking at Habu takedown recurves, and am wondering if anyone here shoots one? Wondering what you like/don't like about it/? Hope someone can give me some insight. Thanks-

I personally don't care for that style--the riser is just too heavy--but then again I prefer longbows. Chris is supposed to be a stickler for details, and he has a good reputation. A friend of mine has one and loves it. If at all possible, shoot one before making your final decision--they feel a lot different (to me anyway) than most td recurves. They are a quality bow, but be sure it is the bow for you.

I have thought about getting a Habu since last year.
I happen to like large heavy risers for their stability.
I asked Chris, recently, what a Habu in Macassar Ebony would run.
He quoted me $1,150.00
Wow, that's $150.00 more than my Trails End.
I believe, I would have to go with the cocobolo for $900.00 if I ordered one.
I believe, one in cocobolo weighs 4 lbs.
Like most bows, the pics on the website don't do them justice.
They're really impressive in person and really well built too.
If you lke a big stable recurve, you won't do better than the Habu.

A buddy of mine has something like three risers and five or six sets of limbs. I've shot a few of them and think they're very nice bows. Built like a tank (strength-wise), very smooth, and good in the speed department.

Definately a winner, IMO.

I remembered, you owned a Widow until you sold it.
Just courious, how do you compare the looks, construction, and smoothness of draw of your Widow to your friend's Habu bows ?

Holey smokes--I didn't realize they cost that much! It's just my opinion, but I can't see paying that much for any bow--at least when there are so many great shooting bows that cost a whole lot less. As for looks, well.....I've seen a lot of beautiful bows, and the same applies--you can get them for a lot less. The last bow I bought has bird's-eye bocote veneer on the limbs--absolutly gorgeous. I also have one with Macassar ebony veneer, just sold one with some gorgeous, very figured yew, had one with some awesome bocote veneer, got one or two coming with bird's-eye/curly figured maple veneer, had a td recurve with the prettiest cocobolo I have ever seen for the riser, and am in the process of buying some Claro walnut for risers, and the list goes on. Of course these don't make the bow shoot any better (aside from the added weight of some woods is a plus to some folks), but they sure are pretty. I'm not trying to down anyone that chooses to pay a lot for a bow they want, I'm just saying you don't have to pay that much for a beautiful bow that shoots as good as it looks.

Lol Sag! Man alive, let me see..........you could get some awesome veneer, extra special riser wood, a gob of strings, and my eternal gratitude!

Honestly, even with the special woods we have now, I can't think of anything that would bring the cost even close to a grand. Maybe if we found some kind of high dollar, rare, exotic wood? I've heard that some of that stuff goes for a heap of cash.
