How to travel with longbow?
 

hey thinking of flyin to Tx to hunt pigs with my longbow. Anyone have trouble getting thier bows down there? I would hate to check it in luggage. But a 63" longbow might be too long for carry on. I will have to check my arrows I know. I will also be taking a compound and rifle.

No way will TSA let you carry it on.
3 Rivers and Kustom King both have hard lb cases.
I have checked fish poles with homemade pvc pipe cases - glue one end and put a screw on cap on the other.
Other option is to ship ahaed of time.

If you check out Cabela's website, they sell a plastic fishing rod tube, called a "Bazooka Tube", for about $30. They are about 4" in diameter, can accomodate two longbows, have a carry handle, are lockable (need two locks), and are adjustable for length. Slip your bows in fleece or wool bow socks, then stick them in the tube. Great for airline travel.

Yep I use PVC pipe for all my long bows ,when I travel

I fix one end with a permanently glue cap and the other cap I hold with locks like a cooler.

Iv'e used PVC tubes many times, especially when I know I will be flying "grab your arse" airlines like the ones in Alaska. The pilot is usually the baggage handler, and none to happy bout it.

I have found that the PVC pipe (schedule 40 PVC) works better and is more durable then any tube sold for the purpose. Most tubes are thinner then schedule 40 pvc.

I was never that soffisticated and just capped one end with glue and the other with duct tape. But would be easy enough to drill hole thru cape and pipe and loop a long shaft padlock thru it.
