Point weight?

125 or 145 gr ??? I currently have 145 grain points in the heritage 350's at 30 in long with 5" sheild cut feather and a wrap. But I notice alot of other using 125 gr broadheads. Is it possible to be too heavy. I am shooting a bear Kodiak Mag 55lbs at 28 " the bow is 52" long. I figured heavier for better penetration......is this correct??

Yea, I believe heavier good penetration up to a point. But depends on how your arrows are flyin. If flying good, don't mess with it. I have been trying to get some cedars flying good for over 2 months with 125gr points, but too stiff, so going to change up to a 150gr or 190gr point see what happens.

The Way I look at it is, The bigger the animal Am going for the bigger the broadhead, For elk I use Grizzley's 150GR.
For southern deer 100 to 125 Gr.; Penetration with broadheads and Trad bows is going to depend on the distance and how sharp your blades are.
I spend lots of time just getting my broadheads really really sharp, until I can cut paper with them as if were a scalpel I don't stop tuning them.
And I do go over them everytime I go out hunting.

My favorite bow is a #50 self made 72" Hickory and bamboo, which has taken a 1400 buffalo at 14 yrds, one 750lB spike elk, and many many wildboars ,weighing in excess of 250 lBS, penetration is just that , sharpness.

whatver flies best in your current setup. If your arrows bare tune with 125's then use the 125's. If it takes a heavier point to get the right spine, use a 145 or even heavier

RE: Point weight?

Spine is 60-65. According to 3rivers chart, that whould be right leaving them at 30".

RE: Point weight?

Hey Alex, I was talking with a guy on traditionalgang page and he told me that I am getting what looks like a stiff spine reaction at 32" because my arrows are way too long. So I cut a few of them to 30" and they seem to fly straighter with the nock not swinging to the right anymore.

Who knows maybe he was right. So today I cut 3 bareshafts down to see how they plane compared to the fletched.

Thanks for the info. My arrows are actually flying very well but I just wanted to see if it was worth going lighter. Thanks guys.
