Practice Pays Off (video)

Here is a short video I had my wife take of me tonite. This is the 9th day since I have started shooting my recurve. I was shooting at 15 steps and my groups have improved tremendously since the last week. I am not sure how my form is, maybe you all can critique me and tear it apart. I am open to any advice or criticism; good or bad. Sorry about the video clarity, I had to use my camera b/c I can't download video from my camcorder.

Here is my opinion ........ there is no such thing as "perfect form"

Everyone shoots differently. IF you shoot consistantly, if every arrow is shot the same, IF your mental edge is "on" you'll be fine.

I HATE Asbell's shooting style, absolutely HATE it. It looks like he's squatting to poop every time he shoots. But the man is a very good shot.

I'd say only this about your shooting ......... you snap shot a couple of arrows, and the other ones you held anchor just a bit. Your groups left/right were very good, the high/low was what kept you from having a 3" group.

Those high/low arrows I'd bet were hte ones you didn't hold for just a moment.

Do you know if thats a true assessment or not ? Just curious ......... other than that, I thought it all looked smooth, comfortable and fluid.

ROTFLMAO!!!! Alex, that second clip.:D:D:D

miller, you're doing exceptionally well for your ninth day! Wow!

I know that you were trying to fit all those arrows in the clip because of the camera restriction. I would just say slow it down a lot in between shots. And move around the yard, don't just try to shoot groups from one position.

I agree, that is great shooting!! Can you group your first 5 shots like that? Probably not, I know I couldn't when I first started.... That is where practicing your form and burning that shot process into your brain comes in..... You want to be able to pick up and hit where you are looking at any given moment.

Thank you Bob....ya, I was hurrying to get the shots in the video. I don't normally shoot that quick. I usually toss my arrows by hand from the target in different positions in the hard and shoot from where they land. I like doing that b/c it gives me different angles and distances from every shot.

Thank you too DC....you are right, I had shot probably 25-30 times before I had my wife come out and film me. I have to get the bugs out before I start hitting like that. Like you said, I have to pick up a bow at anytime and be able to hit like that. I am not quite there yet, but that is why I am going to keep practicing and work on achieving that type of ability. I know it won't just happen over night, a week, month, or year, I have to stay with it. Thanks guys for all your responses.
