Trad thief
Just a warning folks--I found out today that I got stuck. Long story short, I agreed to a trade a week or so ago. A "I'll mail my bow, you mail yours" type deal. The next day I saw a warning on a different board, and sure enough it's the same guy I sent my bow to. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Over a week later, no bow here, so I e-mailed. It was returned as undeliverable. I called--the cell phone had been disconnected.
I am offering a reward to anyone that is directly involved in getting my bow back. It will be easy to spot, as it's one of a kind. It's a Chek-Mate Thunderbird, 62", 47@28, cocobolo riser, yew on the belly, curly maple on the back with black walnut pinstripes down the center. It might wind up on e-bay or a classifieds. It was sent to Meadville, PA so it might wind up on a trade blanket at Denton Hill. If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it. Chad |
RE: Trad thief
Dang Chad, I hate to hear that!! I saw those other posts, looks like he scammed several people at once.... I hope this dirt bag gets busted.....
I'll keep an eye out.... Joel |
RE: Trad thief
That sucks. You think you can trust people, wont do that again.
I will keep my eyes open. You should go on stick bow .com, alot of guys from out east on there. |
RE: Trad thief
What type of reward if I bring the thief in, dead. I dont see how steeling a few bowswould be worththe risk.
Chad you can track cellphone numbers on the internet, but I think it cost alot. I wouldtry and call some cell companies in that area and see if they can help. |
RE: Trad thief
I am sorry for that loss Chad. Saw it on another forum too. Wish there was something I could do to help you retrieve it. I will keep my eyes out. Bet he will be at that northernshoot in PA in a few weeks.

RE: Trad thief
Sorry to hear about the thief Chad. I can't stomach a thief, ruins it for everyone that is honest in this sport. I think it would be worth your time to come to PA and you and I can do some hunting.Do you still have the address whereyou sent the bow? I think you should post it and maybe someone from that area would be familiar. John

RE: Trad thief
I'll keep my eyes open as well. I saw he got quite a few bows, but your's is pretty unique. Any idea what part of PA Meadville is? There are a few trad shops here that buy used bows as well, I'll try to get some phone numbers if you are interested.

RE: Trad thief
per 411.com the address is for the following :
Eric E Matey 323 Latonia Ave Meadville, PA 16335-1435 (814) 724-1581 You just do a "reverse" lookup using the address. Hope it helps....keep me posted |
RE: Trad thief
Thank you very much! I have an update--I have a LEO friend (and fellow archer) that is looking into this, and he came up with the same name for that address.
I actually got the bow I was promised today (I was shocked), but I worry that it's probably one that was scammed off someone else. My guess is this guy's game is going to come to an end soon--he's messed with the wrong people. If anyone knows of someone that lost a bow in this scam, contact me--I might have it. If I do, we'll figure something out. Chad |
RE: Trad thief
watch EBAY too guys - not to take your thread LBR but I've been screwed twice now on Buy It Now Home Depot cards and my last buys were (A) Home Depot card from a person with almost 300 buys/sells and (B) another on magazines that was also an active EBAY user. The second guy gripes me because hes a fellow hunter I believe.
grill him hard Chad ........ bastards |
RE: Trad thief

RE: Trad thief
Sorry for the slow reply--I've been at the Howard Hill Southeastern Championship all weekend.
Right now I'm not real sure what to think, except there's some things that just don't add up. The fellow I sent my bow to saw where I'd posted, and made a determined effort to contact me (called several times before he was able to catch me at home). He has mailed my bow back--it isn't here yet, but he called with the tracking number. I've seen some warnings about him a few other places, but again--there's some things that just don't add up--things that give weight towards clearing his name. He gave me a very believeable explanation of his side of the story. Right now it seems like either he is the victim of a huge misunderstanding, the bad guy is actually further up the chain of trades, or???????? I just don't know. I do expect to get my bow back this week, and will post when I do. Chad |
RE: Trad thief
So you just want you bow back in case you got someone else's bow?
Hope it all works out for you. |
RE: Trad thief
yeppers - sounds fishy but bottom line, you get your bow, be happy
I GAURANTEE I could post 5 bows tonightusing 5 differnt names and handles and price them $75-100 less than what they're really worth and in 2 weeks I'd have cash on hand for $3000 worh of bows that will never be sent. Yes - it could be that easy. BE CAREFUL ......... even EBAY isn't safe anymore, trust me |
RE: Trad thief
I got my bow back today. I did recieve someone else's bow before (in trade for mine), and was able to track him down and send it back--he got his today also.
The fellow I sent the bow back to thinks that Jay is a victim also--he's worked too hard to clear his name, and right now he's out two bows (but will be getting one of them back soon, I think). It's a mess, and it seems that someone is going to loose at least one bow. I still don't know if it was a misunderstanding or someone on up the line of trades is the crook. I don't think the guy I delt with is a crook though. Chad |
