How old is too old for a bow.

This year I pulled out my old 77s model herter's bow and hunted with it. I took 3 deer and 1 hog with it, and while hunting with the old girl, I was wondering how much longer can I use this bow. Up until recently this bow stayed in its case, but two years ago, i messed up my black mamba that I use to hunt with. (ran over it with a 4 wheeler.[:@]) My old Herter's is in great shape, no twist or stress lines, and shoots great still. Im just worried about the age.

Burnie, I hunt every season with a Bear Take down I bought new in 1969, first year they came out. Still going strong. Of course I keep her away from four wheelers...:)

I have a few Howatt recurves date back to the 60's and they are still perfect.
No telling how long they will be around as long as you store them properly, out of humidity and heat, they will last.
And of course out of the way of your ATV. :D:D

It's hard to say--depends on how it's been treated over the years, how good the materials were to begin with, how much it's been shot, etc. etc. etc. I know of (and have owned) lots of old bows that shot great, and still shoot great--and I've seen a few that delaminated for no apparent reason. Sometimes they just give it up--my opinion is it's better to put them to use than to have them hang around and gather dust.

I'm currently shooting a 1967 pearson hunter. Shoots great and havent had a problem yet. See's about 10-20 arrows daily.

Im glad to hear it. I love this old bow, and plan on using it most of the time. I might not even get a replacement for my 4 wheeler fodder.:D Well, I guess I can use the mishap to justify a new fishing bow.

It's always a good idea to have a back-up bow, just in case. Check around on e-bay and the different classifieds--you might even luck up and find another Herters.

I need to do that LBR. Ive always got my compounds, or my fishing bows, but I like to have a legit back up. Im feeling the need to get a good take down.
