Need to pick out arrows
I am getting my Martin longbow 50# tomorrow or so. I need to get some arrows. I have alot of different arrows around like 340 spined carbons, and 400 spined carbons, but all are too light if I follow some recomendations to stay with 9-11gr/lb draw. Even some 2316 alum are too light.
I want to eventually only shoot cedar, but for now figured stay with aluminums or carbons. What brand do you guys shoot to get a 500gr arrow? |

Hey biggun, you didn't mention your draw length?

RE: Need to pick out arrows
Right now with compounds, its 29", but after drawing a few longbows, I think that has gone done to 28.5" or maybe 28".

RE: Need to pick out arrows
If your looking for a lot of weight, I know grizzly stik makes a very heavy carbon arrow, I think they have one of 500 grains, and it goes up from there. However, if your hunting whitetail, you might not need all of the weight, I shot 2 does with my 50 pound bear recurve and had complete pass throughs on both. I was only using 1916 size legacy arrows, along with a 125 grain zwicky broadhead and a 40 grain adapter. Not sure about the bigger deer, but with whitetail, a sharp broadhead will do the trick.

fork, I am doing it to avoid handshock. I think the 1916's however top over 500gr. I was thinking about 2018's.

2016's with big feathers and wraps will get you close

RE: Need to pick out arrows
Thanks Double. I just hate buying multiple sets of arrows. Every bow I have had when I shot aluminums in the 80's and 90's, I ended up having to buy and trade arrows to get the spine right. I thought about getting 30" arrows so I have room to cut to increase my spine. That would put me in the 2018's however.
Double is there any resources for tuning and setup for a longbow? Seems I hear some talk about some books available on stickbow.com. I mean the easton tuning guide is great for compounds and I live and breath it. But I am sure longbows have some different techniques. Thanks for all your guys help. |
