Making the Switch
Hey there fellow trad. enthusiasts,
I'm a 16 year old from northern Iowa and I've been shooting bow for a long time right handed.(10 years) One problem, I'm left-eye dominant. When I was shooting wheels it wasn't a problem, but with my recent switch to traditional equipment, I need to make the switch. I've shot my right-handed bear bow farely effectively and harvested a doe along with some small game this past fall. In a G. Fred Asbell article, he said that you won't reach your full traditional potential shooting opposite handed, so I've decided to make the switch while I'm still young, and it might be easier now than later. I'm looking for advice on making the switch, anything that can make it easier. Thanks A Lot |
RE: Making the Switch
A buddy switched because of target panic. He said it wasn't that bad but he started with a VERY LIGHT weight bow-35# til he got the form down again and used to the opposite hand.

RE: Making the Switch
I don't agree with a lot of what G. Fred says, but I think he's on the right track here. Everyone I've talked to or read about that tried shooting cross-dominant had problems.
As Jim said, start out VERY light and work on the basics. Get those established and move up from there. Good luck! Chad |
RE: Making the Switch
Good luck to you. If it we me, I'd have to shoot crosseyed cuz I can not even wipe my butt with my left hand. ;)I wish you the best and congrats on going trad at such a young age. I'm impressed

RE: Making the Switch
Thanks for the tips guys! I've been shooting a left handed junker for a little while, and was going to upgrade, so l'll keep it on the low side. Hopefully I'll have as good of luck as your son bob.
Thanks again |
