Back Quiver Lining Options pics added 5-15-06
 

Just wondering if anyone had any preferences on Back Quiver Lining Options. I am going to have Steven Catts make a quiver for me and the last thing left is if I want a lining or not.

I have heard good and bad with shearling (mainly catching, snagging point). What about fleece, or even unlined. the quiver will be made of a softer type of leather that will contour to the back. I've never owned a decent back quiver so any comments are welcome. What I am looking to do is maximize quietness.

I've got a quiver lined with fleece and I hate it. It's a PITA trying to put arrows back into it because the points really do snag up in the fleece. I like my quivers unlined, but maybe with some fleece or fur around the top edge to help keep the arrows from rattling.

You can keep the points from rattling around by dropping a couple of handfuls of cedar shavings into the bottom of the quiver. They sell bags of cedar shavings in the pet store. I guess the unwashed,uninitiated and uncivilized non-archers use it to putin the bottom oftheir hamster cages. :eek:;)

Never overlook the pet store when you're shopping for archery supplies. :)

Thanks for the advice Art. After talking with the leathersmith and hearing your comments, I went with an unlined quiver. The leather will be soft, so it should contour to my back pretty well. No real need for the lining. But I did get some shearling on the strap. I'll post some picks when it gets here.

I just bought this quiver at the Traditional Expo in Kalamazoo last month...first back quiver that I've had...it is soft and fits the contour of the back...but...I think I'll put something in it to stiffen it just alittle..the arrows don't go in real good because it does contour the back so well.

It is made from a Fisher.

That' really nice isshe. Who made it? Mine will be made of a coyoter hide. Another four weeks or so and it will be here.

I finally got acouple pictures of the quiver that I ended up with, fits me perfectly, can reach arrows no problem. The leather lining (no fleece inside the quiver) is soft and contours to my back very well. The strap is very nice 2" wide fleece lined 3/4 of the way down. Very happy with it.

That has got to be one of the coolest quivers Ive ever seen.

Hmmm, got my wheels spinning. Ive got a bob cat skin that has been just waiting for me to do something with.;)
