Somthing I have noticed.
 

It seems to me that alot of "big name" traditional hunters shoot recurves. The Wensles, Asbell, that guy on that Easton hunting show, and there are a few morebut I dont know them by name, just by their face. Any one else notice this? Are there any big name guys (not Barta) who hunt with long bows.

I may be way off base, but I wonder if it has anything to due with the types of bows available when these guys started. Back then recurves were the rage, they were supposed to be faster and less shocky, and were shorter making them advantageous in hunting situations. Long bows were long bows, not like the hybrids and short long bows we see today.

I wonder if some of those guys were just starting out today they might be shooting hybrids...

Also, the above is just a pure WAG. :)

Longbows pretty much died out in the 50's. Recurves drew smoother and shot faster, so practically everyone went to recurves. A few diehards held on to shooting longbows though. I finally got alongbow in the late 70's or early 80's. In fact, I shotmy 120 pounder at my first field archery tournament.(Never shot that beast at a field shoot again though![:-])

Anyway, I think RB is right. Practically everyone from pre-compound days started out with recurves and that's whatthey know best, are most comfortable with, have the greatestconfidence withand, usually, are most proficient with. I'm that way, for sure. I love shooting longbows, but I'vealways beena better shot with a recurve.

Stands to reason that someone who is making videos will shoot the bow he's least likely to embarrass himself with. ;)
