I've Converted to the Dark Side!!!
 

Well I've gone and done it now. I was getting bored with shooting a compound and wanted to do something different and decided to start shooting a recurve again it also didn't help that the shop I hang out at and help with has a traditional team and influenced me some. Mind you this is the first time I've shot one in 17 years since my dad gave me his old 25# Ben Pearson Super Jet recurve to start shooting with and started my Archery addiction. Well I pulled out my Grandfathers 1964 Locksley Puma got a new string for it and got it cleaned up and shot it for the first time last night. Well it reminded my why I love archery so much, what a blast. I haven't had that much fun shooting in years. It reminded me of the days when I would shoot that old Ben Pearson super Jet all day until I had blisters and couldn't even pull the bow back anymore. Well now I'm hooked, I am not ready to go hunting with it but I am better with it than I expected to be. In fact one of the owners of the shop commented to me last night that I was shooting it very well and offered me a spot on the traditional team. I just wanted to share my joy with everyone. I still have alot to learn and remember about shooting a recurve so I'm sure i'll be picking everyones brains here.

Welcome back! You are one lucky dude to have a traditional group at the local shop--most of us have trouble finding someone to shoot with, and the shops don't generally carry anything we can use other than a glove or tab. If we can help, just holler!

whitehair where are you at on the eastern shore? I've spent a fair amount of time traveling down route 13 down to Chincoteage, VA for many vacations. And even more trips in the past 6 years since my family bought a vacation home on Chincoteague. I've spent a fair amount of time bowfishing for shark and stingrays around the island. I've been going there for so many years I feel like a native.:D

Yeah it is nice to have a traditional group. In fact they hold the Pennsylvania traditional indoor team record. The best part of it is these guys in no way take it too seriously. They have a grand old time shooting, Joking and laughing and picking on one another as they shoot the whole time. Now to fiddle with tuning my bow and get myself striking some gold.

No law against goin both ways I reckon (did I just say that?????????)......errr....I mean nothing wrong with a feller shooting a compound and a trad bow. Our resident guru/curmudgeon (Art) does that--shoots both types of bows I mean. I have a feeling which one is going to see more and more time at the range and in the field though!

One of the great things about trad archers in general is most don't take themselves too seriously--for my part, if you can't have fun with it, what's the point? I've been to a few mixed shoots with some buds and we've been called down for being too loud. Not to say that everyone that shoots a compound is like that--I've had fun on the range with them too--but seems to me that way too many of them take it way to seriously. Poor feller's are gonna' get high blood pressure from something that's supposed to be fun!

Glad you have a good group of guys to shoot with, Chad wasnt kiddin' either. My local shop has a Bear 'curve...

PA, Im in little old Chestertown...I suppose I could make the drive to Chincoteague if you need a hand with those stingrays...

Sounds great! Welcome back to Trad. You say you that you are not giving up the compound - let's check back in a year or so....:D
