getting started

I am looking to purchase a traditional bow.

Used to shoot a compound years ago but it didn't sustain my interest over the long term. I only hunt with blackpowder rifles/shotguns so I really don't want a high tech bow with all the bells and whistles.

I will probably have about $400 to spend on the bow.

I am looking for recommendations about getting started, especially as far as which bows I should look into.

The ultimate goal is to buy a bow this winter and start hitting the practice range immediately, with the hope of being ready for deer season in the fall of 2006 (or 2007 if it takes that much practice).

Thanks in advance.

RE: getting started

Tom, I would say if it is something you want to do then make sure you do it. I'm sure once you start, you will probably continue with it. You may want to start with something used at first. Or even try to borrow some bows to try them out. Some people prefer longbow, some prefer recurves, and some prefer selfbows. After trying some out, then you may want to purchase a particular bow either used or new. If you go the new route, I'd suggest talking with Chad (LBR) to decide what type of model you would want. I'm sure you could get a real decent bow for the amount of money you are willing to spend. Best of luck, and let us know how you make out.

Laminated on both sides #60 @ 28" draw. Looks real Pretty and shots fast. I'll let it go for $175
