What draw weight should I use

I am a bowhunter and have had much sucess with compund bows. I am interested in starting into the recurve area and was wondering what poundage I should get. I currently draw 52# with a 28 inch draw on my compound. Thanks

I would say around 40-45 lbs. I went from 60lbs compound to a 45lb recurve and it wasnt bad.

Good luck

Yep, 40-45 pounds is a good starting weight for most people.

An old rule of thumb is to draw thebow to anchor and hold it. Whatever weight you can hold for 10 seconds before you get the shakes is a good poundage for you to shoot. If you can hold it for longer than 15 seconds before the shakes set in, try one 5 lbs heavier.

It's a good idea to start out recurving with a bow that's a bit lighter than you can actually handle though. That lets you get the proper form grooved in before going up in poundage.

Be sure to check your state's bowhunting regs to see if there is a minimum draw weight for hunting bows. Most states that have set draw weight minimums run 40-45 pounds for deer size game.

I'd say go with a 50# recurve. if it's a little to heavy 45# will still work. happy shopping:D:D

Remember, you're only holding between 13-18lbs at full draw with your compound, and you're probably using a wrist release rather than fingers. With a recurve you're going to be holding the whole shebang on your fingers. I'd start with a cheapo used recurve in 30-35# range and get your form down before progressing to a hunting weight bow.
