Check This bow out !
Might be able to get my hands on this bow. Cant wait :
Autographed by Mr. Bear himself in 1980. 22k gold plated limb mounts and clear glass. Limbs are yew and the riser is brazilian rosewood. Very collectable from what my buddy tells me. He's looking to get rid of it. Dont ask me why , wouldnt part with it , but wont tell him that. ![]() |
RE: Check This bow out !
Yes, it is very collectable. Even the plain Jane, unsigned Kodiak TD's that are in any kind of acceptable condition are selling for a thousand bucks. But don't tell him that.[8D] If you get it, you can bet I'll be more than a little green with envy.:D

RE: Check This bow out !
He must be in a bad way for cash then. He told me he'd sell to me for $400. I've held the bow and it has no dings at all. It sat in his uncle's basement for at least 15yrs. He doesnt hunt so hopefully it'll be in my hands by next week. Was gonna spend 3-400 on a new bow anyway , so why not this one:)

RE: Check This bow out !
Saw a bow exactly like that several years ago. There was supposedly only a few of them made--think the price tag on the one I saw was $2,500 (pretty sure it never sold, but......). Don't shoot it, don't take it out of the box, don't even handle it--you will decrease the value. I'd happily give you double your money back on it.

RE: Check This bow out !
I'm serious--one reason (other than I just can't afford it) I never got into collecting bows--you will decrease the value if you use them, and any handling will increase the chances of a ding plus you have have stuff in your skin that could eventually show up in the finish. That bow wasn't made to shoot--it was made to seal up and look at. I'd put it in a glass display, or lease it out to a big archery shop that would be able to watch after it properly.
Or, you could double your money and get all that worry off your hands......:D Chad |
RE: Check This bow out !
Hey Slugman.....Ill give you $600 for that bow......At least give me access to the owner....you wouldnt be telling about this bow unless you cant afford ..its a scam...or you want a bidding war.....which is it? Dont
BS me or others here......not cool |
RE: Check This bow out !
I saw a bow just like the one posted ,on Ebay last week that went for over $3000. [:o].

RE: Check This bow out !
I call BS.........
http://www.archeryhistory.com/recurves/recurvesmain.htm Check out the 6th picture down on the left and the description and you be the judge. Whoopsy huh?;) |
RE: Check This bow out !
ohhh looks like you got punk'd ..good catch Matt.
|
RE: Check This bow out !
ThatIS an uncanny resemblance isn't it.:D
(Maybe it's his buddy's bow that Archeryhistory.com borrowed for the website?[:-]) Somebody got punk'd, and I think it was YOU guys. Glad nobody sent $600 for it.;) |
RE: Check This bow out !
I don't even see how that's possible.
|
RE: Check This bow out !
(Maybe it's his buddy's bow that Archeryhistory.com borrowed for the website?) Didnt have a pic at the time so used that one. Glad you thought you being an internet superhero and saving someone from being as you say Punk'd. Next time I'd suggest knowing all the facts before accusing someone of something. All , you had to do was ask where the pic came from. Thanks ... |
RE: Check This bow out !
Did you buy it yet?
When are you getting it? Not being skepitcal, I'm genuinely curious. Sounds like one heck of a deal on a neat bow... |
RE: Check This bow out !
Your serious?.......your buddyhas the EXACT same bow signed by Fred Bear himself in 1980?
That isn't a one of a kind? So there's multiple bows of that vintage running around signed by Fred Bear in 1980 with the exact same trimmings?. If you don't think your description and the use of that picture without crediting the source right off the bat sounded fishy,(and still does)you're sadly mistaken. If you get your hands on that exact bow from your buddy, and produce pictures of it you'll have my most sincere apologies. Until then....... |
RE: Check This bow out !
Matt, actually there were 150-something of those bows produced--I've seen two of them in person. Lynn Busby in FL hadat least one of them--think he had two at one time. I'll have to watch my Bear Museum tour video again to know the exact number, but I'm 99.99% sure the number was over 150, but less than 160. The one I saw came in the same display case, bow and case signed by Fred Bear, and had gold plated td clasps. Absolutely beautiful bows--I'd never take it out of the case if I had one.

RE: Check This bow out !
According to the late Mr. Frank Scott on the Bear Museum tour video, there were 156 of those bows produced.

Ok my bad.........[:-]
But tell me it didn't look like shenanigans? Slugman, you have my apologies.....I assumed you were up to something there (even if it was to just impress the ladies;))If your buddy was selling that for $400 I think I'd almost feel guilty taking it from him after seeing what other Bear recurves sell for normally. I still want to see some pics of that bow though, better than the Archeryhistory site. As Arthur can tell you I have had a sudden uncontrollable interest in Recurves again and I'm just eating all this stuff up. By the way I just picked up the same bow you have (Pearson Hunter 709) to get me flinging arrows until I can figure out what I want to order exactly from Chek-Mate for a possible late X-Mas or Birthday present. Again Slugman, I am sorry for ASSuming.:( |

Rangeball......
That would be something huh? [:-]:D and Shhhhhhhh.........I'll just hide over here like a dirty secret.;) |
RE: Check This bow out !
It does sound too good to be true, but things like that do happen with trad bows--I've got friends that have picked up vintage bows in practically new condition for next to nothing--wonder why that never happens to me????:( I did get lucky several years ago with a couple of hand signed and numbered Glen St. Charles back quivers--#77 and #79 of 100 or less. Didn't get them all that cheap, but I thought they were a great find anyway.
I can't remember if I've owned a Pearson Hunter or not (had several different ones), but the Pearson's I've owned were good bows. I'm not sure why they aren't more collectable--possibly because there were so many of them produced. On the video "The Legendary Hunts of Ben Pearson" video, they give a little bit about the history of Ben Pearson Archery--at one time, they bought feathers (to make arrows) by the boxcar load! I can't imagine fletching that many arrows......shew! I'd like to see some pictures of the bow myself--any idea what number it is? Chad |
