LBR, That's a fair question back to me. The spine shots were accidents. Once upon a time I used to wait for a quartering "towards" me shot so I could take out a shoulder while driving into the vitals. That was more than 25 yrs. ago and like anyhting else you should grow in what you do and now I shoot for the crease on all my game. After more than 50 big game kills I can honestly say that what you want and what you end up with are sometimes a long way apart and that's the real reason I shoot the heavy stuff, just in case the wrong thing happens I don't want to worry I might hit a bone and wound the deer.

Thanks for the reply longbowman--I wasn't trying to be a smart aleck, I honestly was wondering what the deal was. You make perfect sense now. I agree, extra poundage can help in some situations--and 99% of the time (in my experience anyway) those dang whitetails do everything except what you want them to do!

My main concern is that we don't give beginners the wrong idea, thinking that they can make crappy shots as long as they do it with enough poundage.

I use carbon shafts exclusively now, regardless of type of bow. I fletch 'em with plastic, because it's cheap, easy, and works. Can they cut you if you hit yourself with em? I suppose....but you can do that with feathers too. And realistically, once you get the knack of shooting, you won't be hitting yourself. Arm-guards, etc to protect you from getting hit are crutches. Use proper form, and you won't need any of 'em

Man I can't even fathom shooting a long bow with that much weight. I know I could back in my prime but not today nor would I want to. You can do what you please but saying because you can does not make it worth it. IMO if you can shoot that much weight with accuracy think about how much better you could shoot with a bow with less poundage - like your 70# or even a 50#. With a 100# draw long bow and heavy arrows you could kill anything that walks. Good luck to you.
