Fletch- High profile versus regular?

So I'm getting ready to order some feathers. Choices are sheild and parabolic cut, both in regular and high profile.

I assume high profile will give one more control? Will they have a flu flu effect?

Right now I'm leaning towards HP shield cut, but I can be talked down if I should be... :)

I think a lot is going to depend on how far you plan on shooting. If you are shooting within 30 yards or so, High Profile should be fine. I use Maxi-Fletches and 5 1/2 HP Sheild Cuts for hunting whitetail and such. Maxi fletch is almost a banana cut feather 5 3/4" long. But I don't plan on shooting past 20 yards or so. What you don't want if you are going to shoot long distances is for the arrow to slow down too fast which could cause the arrow to fly irraticle. The larger the fletch, the more chance of this happening.

As far as the choices in cuts, a lot will have to do with your personal likings of the fletch and the amount of noise you are willing to deal with. I believe Parabolic is the quietest. But I like the looks of banana and sheild cut better.

That's what I was thinking. I don't plan to shoot past 20 yards, unless it just feels right, then I might push it to 25ish.

How much noisier are shields over parabolics? They also offer a HP parabolic, that might look ok...

From my experience, there is not much between any of them, not noticable unless you really listen.

Here is a picture of the maxi-fletch by true flight:

Not any decent one's. I'll see if I can get some tonight.

I gotta warn ya though, they are nothing all that pretty. Just gamegetters.

Here you go, starting with the black and white fletched arrow, they are 5" shield, 5" parabolic, 5 1/2" HP shield, and 5 3/4" maxifletch. The first arrow is a 2216, the rest are 2018's.

Thanks Bob. That really helps.

I kind of like the looks of that Maxi-fletch.

What broadheads do you fling on these? Do you notice a difference in control between these fletchings? If so, could you please list them from worst to best?

Thanks.

Those arrows are soooooo 80's....

me likey

serious, I dig 'em...I sure wish they'd bring back the autumn oranges :(

BTW...how in the hell did you manage to get an Adcock Bobco?...that guys has like a 3 year wait...or did ya buy used?

Side note: Last I heard, Bob Morrison was using his ACS design...Sad thing is, before Bob got popular I had a few of his bows, and they were easy to get and very reasonably priced...and *phenomenal* bows.....hindsight is 20/20 and all that:(
