Struggling with Broadhead Choice

Hey all. I'm about to order the stuff I need to get me ready for the upcoming season. I'll be shooting a Martin X-200 45#@28" draw. Plan to shoot Carbon Express Terminators (black) with with 3 5" feathers and a 125 grain head.

Shots will be limited to 20 yards and under, intendend targets are 300+# huge racked whitetail and smaller :)

I'm currently considering the "4" blade Magnus Stinger and the screw in Wensel Woodsman. I know the 4 blade at low poundage may be a concern, but my understanding is the bleeders don't do much more than provide clearance for the shaft. Not quite sure if I have enough power for the Woodsman.

My goal is a good blend of maximum penetration (preferably pass throughs) and hole creation. Any thoughts?

Also any thoughts on my set up are welcome as this will be my first year in the woods with a stick.

I think you'll be fine with either of the blades that you mentioned. Personally I'll be using the stinger 150 grain head. If you are concerned with your choices, then maybe just remove the bleeders on the stinger.

I'm not a trad expert by any means RB,only dabbling in it over the years, but I'd say that is a good choice in arrows and heads(stingers)...prolly that or a phantom is what I would go with (I've had great experiences with the phantom in years past)

I didn't know Stingers came in a 150 option.

As far as removing the bleeders, I know a 2 blade will maximize penetration potential, but at the cost of hole creation.

Refresh my memory, Phantoms have a larger cut on the primary and bleeders over the stingers, right?

So far the shaft/head combo is flying pretty well. I got worried for a second as I was getting crappy flight until I discovered for some reason I had screwed a 100 grain tip in. Too stiff for my set up.

Minimal...Phantoms are 1 & 1/8", IIRC. Muzzy home page will give ya the specs.

I've seen some pretty bad reviews on bleeder blades, not just with Magnus. I've killed 4 deer with Magnus 2 blades, and while penetration was awesome, blood trails were just mediocre IMO.

However, I am still using the 125 grain 2 Blade Magnus heads this year.

Yup, 150's are new this year. Cabelas are the only one's that I know of that currently have them available. I got three packs of them about two weeks ago.

As far as the 2 versus 4. Many individuals will shoot nothing but 2 blades. There are debatable variables for each. Personally, I'd leave the bleeders on the stingers. I believe they are only 3/4" wide, so the penetration effect shouldn't be all that much.

The phantoms do have a much larger bleeder then the stinger. Both are great heads IMO. But I have had some trouble with the blades loosening on the phantoms, they are some what noisier then the stingers also.

Yup my experience as well...I absolutely hate 2 blades for that reason....thats why they are called "bleeders", ya actually can find some blood ;)

I will be using bleeders this year or next...and will pair it with a very small diameter (heavy)carbon to help w/ penetration...

Replace Wensel Woodsman with Razorcap. Unless I was seeing things, Kustom King's catalouge has the WW screw in listed at 125 grains. Apparently it's only available in 150 grain, which is what KK has listed for it on their website.

IIRC, the Razorcap has the same L/W ratio as the WW, right?
