http://www.tradstore.com/woodshed/ is the only one I can think of off-hand, but keep in mind that color and grain can vary--sometimes a LOT, depending on the type wood. The South American woods seem to have the most variation.

RE: wood color
Not sure about the wood but I love your qoute. Teddy is the best, we could use a guy like him right now.

RE: wood color
I think the wood shed will be about your best bet.
Also try here: http://www.bowmaker.net/index2.htm Here is a pic of one of my favorite woods, waterfall bubinga. I think though that my next bow will have snake skin on it. |
RE: wood color
That waterfall bubinga is beautiful, but I think it's only good as a veneer--those really fancy woods like that don't normally have a strong grain and won't hold up well for a riser or as a primary limb material. That's a picture of the veneer itself--it's a bit darker under glass, more of a brownish color--still really pretty though.

RE: wood color
Nope--it ain't cheap. I've got some--well, actually Chek-Mate has it, but it's mine. My girlfriend's recurve has it on the belly side, and a friend ordered a bow with it on both sides--real pretty. I don't think it would show up very well on a longbow though--the figure is too wide. Better for recurves and flatbows. Beeswing figure eucalyptus and Japanese Tamo Ash have a figure that shows up really nice on longbows.

Does checkmate do snakeskin backings on the crusader? Just wondering.

RE: wood color
Afraid not--too much of a pain when it crosses the border. As I understand it though, it's not that hard to do. I have a website saved that gives the step-by-step. Never tried it myself--my limbs have so many "character marks" I don't think the skin would hold up too well.

Well, here's a link to pics and review of my new bow- I think it's a looker, and it helps that it shoots like a dream too.
Thanks Chad! http://tradgang.com//noncgi/ultimate...c;f=1;t=021332 |

Snakewood is my favorite.
Very heavy and stable as well as beautiful. Well, beautiful to my eyes. ;) Here is a pic of the actual Snakewood that will be used to build my next Trails End recurve. Sag. |
