Kids and shooting.

I have been thinking alot about yongsters and shooting, the old way. What are some programs that are getting kids involved in this sport. I would like to get involved with any of these programs. In middle school we shot recurves but the teacher didnt know anything about it, which mad it rather dull.

I wish someone would have helped me get into this 10 years ago.

The National Archery in the Schools Program sponsored by Matthews is one. Another is the NAA's JOAD Program (Junior Olympic Archery Development). Both are excellent ways to introduce a youngster to archery. Check with your local school district to see if they have NASP or when they anticipate getting it. Check with your local archery clubs to see if any of them have a JOAD program.

Also try contacting your local 4-H. The one here is hurting for an archery instructor. I didn't find out in time this year--you have to take a short course and get certified--but I reckon I'm elected for next year.
