I still need to sight my Remington Genesis in. Since I'm not the best at it it usually takes me several shots and I need to sight my scope in and my open sights. I had the open sights adjusted for if I use 150 grains of powder but I want to step back to 100 grains so I'm thinking I'm going to need to change them and since I have see thru mounts I want them sighted in. The scope is about 2" high at 25 yards but that's with the 150 grains too so it will all need readjusting.

So basically since I'm planning to shoot 20-25 shots at least what should I do cleaning it? It's a pain and usually takes me hours to get it clean the way I normally do when I'm done shooting and bring it home. So this isn't practical to do out in the field. Yet I don't want to have it sighted in wrong due to it being too dirty. So what are your recommendations for cleaning it when trying to sight it in and how often should I do it?

What I have normally done is to pre-make some windex patches and store them in an air tight continer. I use them to patch the barrel after each shot. The key is to get just barely damp... not wet...

I do the same thing with T/C #13.I usually reserve these patches until I am done and run one or two down the bore to get it somewhat clean and keep the remaining fouling soft until I get home.
But normally whether I am shooting Pyrodex or BP, I put a cotton patch in my cheek before I load my rifle and fire it. After shooting the charge, I remove the patch and it is usually just damp so I swab the bore, both sides of the patch, then a dry patch. Put another patch in my cheek and start all over. This usually get the bore pretty clean.

I use BH209 so I just blast away as much as I want. But what I'm going to do next time is this.... Fire that initial bullet on a clean bore with 1 fouling primer. Then swab the bore clean and allow the barrel to cool. Then fire again and repeat the process until I get a good group at 100 yards. That's how I plan to get my ML dialed in for hunting since I will be making the kill shot with a clean/cool barrel and 1 fouling primer.

I just got done sighting in a scope on my Genesis today. I start at 13 yards. I want one hole. I swab between shots. With that one hole, I know the load specifications are good and the scope is holding. So I make an adjustment. I then shoot another two shot group, swabbing between shots. Again, I had two that made a figure eight touching. One more adjustment put me on the bulls eye.

I then swab the barrel and move it back to 50 yards and shoot all over again. I do not expect a one hole here, but I do expect a very tight group. I then sight in one inch high at 50 yards. Normally that will put me right on the money for when I later try the rifle out at 100 yards.

Please post your results, I did that pretty much the way you are describing and the only difference it made was to open the group up some. I shall be interested in seeing if you get the same result. Lee
