First deer (Nannywhacking)(pics included)
So here's the story....I went out yesterday at about 1 p.m. for an afternoon hunt. I took my climber, bow, and pack and set up 50 yards in the woodline of a field...and set up 20 yards of a major trail. After sitting for hours and being ready just to call it quits at around 6:30, I saw deer movement. At first I saw one doe and then others followed. They looked like they were gonna pass me at60 yards or so , but then the lead doestrated headed my way and everyone followed. She was about 40 yards ahead of everyone making sure it was ok for her fawns and the other deer to come out. So she starts heading straight for my tree. I'm in the climber only 15 feet up with not a a lot of cover and I'm thinking "oh man she's gonna bust me". She keeps walking towards me wind checking. At 20 yards she turns broadside right in front of me. As soon as her head was behind a tree I drew my bow back. When she cleared the tree I setlled my pin and the the arrow fly. It didn't make any noise, but a complete pass through. I watched as she ran for 30 yards and walked the other 10 before she wobbled and keeled over. She was down and I was breatheless. Her fawns stayed with her for a while, so I decided to climb down and exit the woods as not to spook the other deer. I put my gear back in the truck and then went back with my friend about 40 minutes or so . We took care of business and dragged her out. This is probably going to be my most memorable hunt. The skeeters were the size of helicopters and we got bitten so bad and through our shirts, but I didn't let that get me down, my spirits were way too high to let anything else get me down. Here are some pics:
