Epic Stealth or Roscoby Riser Cam
#21
Finally had a little time to play with this again today.
I have found that it is going to be very difficult to position the camera on your hat, turn it on, and have it positioned correctly to catch the action.
Also, you will not be able to see your arrow hit the target.
I was using the lower resolution setting today.
I am going to try again with the max 640 x 480 in the next few weeks and then I will post again on YouTube.
This may only prove to be a toy instead of something of a great value to the hunting experience.

Well, here is the link to the new video.
It is high res (640 x 480).
20 yard shot
Using the hat clip.
I just don't know if this will be an effective method for a bow hunt.
You have to press the M button twice and then the S button once to get it started.
The hat mount is very sensitive, so even if you are lucky and position it right, once you press the buttons 3 times, you may have moved it too far to get a shot at what you want.
I needed to look at the target longer after the shot, bear with me.
I need to test the other mount option...maybe mounted to the actual bow somewhere (stabilizer?)
This is probably a huge benefit to the Roscoby.
However, I wanted the flexibility of the Epic to be able to video dove, teal hunts and fishing trips.

Just got the EPIC Stealth and so far not too impressed. It comes with a Hat clip. No Bow mount. How are you suppose to use it to film your shot. It comes with a tree screw in. Have not used it to check the video yet. Considering taking it back to Bass Pro. Just does not seem to be quality accesories/mounts. Let me know if anybody else is having the same thoughts..

I have been playing with it and I still cannot get any decent video with it. In bright sunlight it seems to be the best but that is still not good. I beleive I am taking it back to Bass Pro. They will take it back within 30 days

bought epic about 1 month ago. attached to my mathews. video isnt good enough to see arrow placement at 20 yrds but you'll get a good video of the deer. [I was thinking of using luminoks]
does not record well in low light conditions, but that does'nt matter because you'll never find the buttons or know if it is recording in the dark. also shuts off after 5 min of no use [unit needs a led to know that it is recording] for a bow mount strap it right to your stabilizer. let me know if this helps

I tested the Roscoby in low light. It works decent. I tested it on Oct 8th from about 6:35 pm to 7:15 PM which was sunset in Western PA. From 6:35 P I had a decent picture and it did get increasingly grainy as it got darker but I had viewable video up untill about 10 minutes before dark. I have the video but I'm not sure how to post it so you all can see it. As far as the shakiness goes, it is all on the shooter as to how well he or she can remain a statue during the release. In the video of me practicing with it you can see I get better with each shot at holding it still. It is something that you have to practice with recording some shots and then look at the video to figure out what you need to do to get the shot. I also recorded a little 4 point in normal morning light in the shade before the sun actually broke out above the trees to provide bright sunlight. The camera is set up to see where your site is aiming so basically you have to keep your site on what you want to see. I'm posting a snapshot from the video of my 3 shot group at 6:45 PM. This is at 20 yds. The camera is pretty easy to use. the Pwr button has a three second delay but once the camera is on and in standby mode, pressing record starts the recording instantly. The indicator lights are bright and on the top so they could be an issue in low light as far as the deer seeing them goes but a little tape covering them some works out. It will stay on in standby mode just about all morning with the recommended batteries.

Here is a snapshot of the 4 point from the video I took at about 8:30 am Oct.10th at almost the same distance as the target I posted. The field of view is larger than the pics. I had to make them smaller to upload them.
