I have the 12 Ga Mossberg O/U. The first one I had, had the under barrell shoot a few inches too low, so I sent it back to Mossberg. They replaced it with a new one (happy about that), but it took them about three months (I didn't like that...).

Have shot several hundred rounds through the current one without problems. In the beginning I had sometimes problems closing the gun until I learned to use a little bit more force. A non-issue now. Paid $470 + tax and I think the gun is worth the money. Looks nice, too. I don't think it will compare to Beretta, Red Label etc., but that's not relevant at this price point.

The chokes that come with the gun are not the greatest re pattern, but they'll do the job. I am thinking about getting better chokes on my gun.

Mosssberg Silver Reserve series O/U have had some real problems in the past with the firing pins breaking. Mossberg finally admitted to the problem and now claim that they have solved the problem. They have stood behind their gun's and repaired or replaced the one's that had the defective pins. My friend's O/U Silver Reserve's firing pin broke on the trap line one evening and he couldn't finish his round. At that time the gun only had about 900 rounds through it. He sent the gun in and Mossberg replaced it with a new gun. The problem was it took them about 8-10 weeks for him to get it back, Mossberg said they were backlogged with repairs. There are a some threads on the net about these issues. With all that said, I still think the gun is a good value for under five hundred bucks. I bought my son one for his birthday, he has around 200 rounds through it and no issues yet. I am hoping it has the new and improved pins in it. As mentioned before, the chokes are not very good. That was the first thing I replaced with some aftermarket one's. The gun patterns, swings, and shoots good. Nice carry gun for grouse also. Just my $.02

I purchased some Trulock Choke Tubes. I have used them before on some other guns and they pattern great. They have a very informative website at trulockchokes.com You can buy direct from them on line or call the 800 number. I have been very pleased with there service and product.

I just recently bought a new Over Under. Originally, I was going to get the Mossberg as it is a nice looking gun, priced well, and come from a compnay that has been building guns for a long time. I did a ton of research on the Silver reserves, and they got bad reviews from everybody and all the forums I went to. Granted, i had time to do all the research and wasn't in too big a hurry to spend the money. At any rate, I decided that it would be better to spend the cash now and get something that will last a lifetime, and then some. I bought a Browning Citori instead. You can find a great gun for a goreat price if you have the patience to shop around.
Now for the price that you are looking into the Remington Spartans, and not sure who makes them, but it is called a Condor have gotten really good reviews for their overunders.
Good luck

Kurt
