Default Opening day NY buck

I knew a nice buck was working a ridge line on the back of a farm I was hunting this year. I had caught a glimpse of him one night out in the field and knew he was a real nice buck for my area. I filled my archery buck tag in early November on agreat buck from another farm so I began to snoop around and try to figure out where he might be. Turns out he was tearing up a ridge line along the back of the property that I had been to many times and saw almost no sign before. I couldn't believe how much sign was there when I went back. Considering this ridge was a nice escape route and offered me a good view I decided it was best chance at him on opening day. On the fly (basically on my way in) I decided to get in thicker and pass up the good view for a better chance at catching one sneaking through the brush. I could see 20 yards max in 2 directions and everywhere else was thicker. At 7:40am I heard something crunch the crisp cold leaves and seconds later a doe appeared with a5 pt close behind..........I could hear more deer behind them so I waited and as they approached another doe followed with this guyright on her tail. My shot rang outwith him 5 yards from my stand..........He went about 40 yards andcrashed making the woods silent yet again.Great morning and a great season.
