Default How to season a barrel?

Can someone explain to me how to "season a barrel" is there a right or wrong way to begin shooting a rifle? I generally try to let the barrel cool in between shots, and clean it after every shooting trip. Any advice would help out

Thanks!!

Everybody has differing ideas so I'll tell you what I do. From 1st to 10th shot, clean between every single shot. Depending on barrel, sometimes this goes to 1st 20 rounds. for the next 10 rounds, clean between every other shot. What this does is burmishes the bore without embedding bullet jacket material and displacing bore steel. It will polish bore safely without risks involved in firelapping.

Clean it before anything.....then shoot it. Clean when you get home from the range.

I prefer the McCormic's seasoning salt and a little Montreal steak seasoning. slow cook for 5 hours or its chewwy! I'm sorry I just couldn't resist. I know you where serious but I'm not in a serious mood today.

Okay to be serious for a second, shoot and clean for first 10 shots be sure to use a good copper solvent like sweet 7.62.

Clean it at home after you buy it,make sure that the action screws are properly tightened, shoot it and clean it again.

Thanks for the help-- I've decided that after cleaning it after every shot I will baste it in a tasty marinade, then season it with a chili rub before smoking it.

Thanks

The best way to season it is to coat the bore thoroughly with Crisco, then bake it in a 400-degree oven for an hour......
