Default i think this restriction should be everywhere

Here in some parts of NY they have made an atler restriction that says any one 17 and over can only shoot a buck if it has 3 countable points on one side... this makes first year hunters (15 is the minimum) be able to get more deer, and it lets the deer most likely get to atleast 2 years old, instead of getting shot as a yearling or a young buck.. i think its working good so far, ive seen 3 bucks allready, wich is alot compared to how hard this area is hunted.
I think this rule should be applied everywhere, maybe even 2 points on 1 side if theres alot of bucks.
What do you guys think of this?

I like that idea.

We have a three point minimum or antlerless restriction here, but it applies to everyone.

We have pretty much the same restrictions in our hunting club, with the exception of a young kid can shoot anything as long as it's their first deer.

Missouri has a 4 point restriction on one side in certain counties.

I may get some heat for saying this, but I think youth gun season should be restricted to does only. There are a lot of dads/parents out there that buy a tag and utilize it as an opportunity to kill a big buck. As a child, I was tickled to death to just see a deer and the thrill of killing a doe was just as rewarding at that age. I am 33 now and get excited when I get a doe with my bow. This would also help with the population problem in certain areas when hunters strictly focus on trophy hunting.

PA has a similar rule. For adult hunters 16 and above in most of the state a buck has to be 3 or more points on a side. There are some areas in western pa that it is 4 points on a side or more. And then in the heavier populated around philly a pittsburg all bucks as long they have spikes 3 inches or more are fair game to all hunters. Now in the 3 and 4 point to a side youth hunters may take any buck as long as it has spikes 3 inches or more. These rules were put in place a few years ago and have seemed to help produce more mature bucks here in pa. But keeping th rules the same as they were for youth hunters was a very good move in my book.

Don't even get me started! I HATE that rule!!!!! Don't get me wrong, if any of ya'll that own land want to self impose that, I've got no issue with that. State Legislation can color it what ever they want, but it's all about money, period. Ah man.....I don't even wanna get into it....

We have a 3 point on one side restriction here in Arkansas, BUT as of last year the state opened a Modern Gun youth hunt weekend, the weekend before opening of modern gun season for everyone. That weekend there is no antler restrictions.
