Thumb release suggestions

Been fighting a form of target panic for about 7 years now. Those that have had it know what I am talking about. I've got it down to one thing that might possibly fix it completely for me. Almost every time I extend my index finger I drop my bow arm and sometimes its almost impossible to get my sight pin back on target without quick triggering. In other words if I drop my arm and then bring my pin back up, some times I just trigger the release. I know its a mental thing but.......possibly a thumb release would fix it. I can hold on target all day as long as my finger is behind the release. One other thing.........pulling the bow with my index finger already in front of the trigger does not work.

Who makes a good thumb release that requires little movement......and does not use a rope? Does any of them make a thumb release that incorporates a wrist strap?

Matt posted one that has a wrist strap in the hunting forum.

I personal use a TruBall Extreme with Talon head and you can attach a wrist strap to it.
I have been playing around with the new Mag-Tek release with thumb trigger and so far it is probably the smoothest release I have shot with no trigger travel before the release goes off and it does not have a spring that can weaken but instead it has a magnet that you can adjust the trigger poundage from a 3lb pull to a full 6lb pull.

It was designed by Ken Stanislawski so you know its a good release.

I just recently went to a thumb trigger model to try and start using backtension more without going to a full back tension release. I tried almost every carter out there except for the Chocolate Addiction (i really wanted to try one but no one I knew had one), and out of all of them, they T.R.U Ball selections felt better. I ended up with the Ultra Extreme with the Talon Head as well. The trigger has absolutely no load, and breaks like glass. The first few times I shot it with backtension, it surprised me because you have no idea when it was going to go off.

Carter's Chocolate Addiction works for me. Some say that you need larger hands for it, but I've not found that to be the case. My hands are not large and for me, it's quite comfortable.

It has adjustment for both travel and tension. Also, some of the later models have easy access to springs so that you can change the tension by changing the springs.

I shot some of my best scores in league this winter with mine.

This is only a suggestion. A release is one of those things that's very personal. You need one that fits you and your shooting style.

The biggest negative is the cost.

Another possible negative is the lack of a safety. A lot of people want that, but for me, a safety is an added complication. I just draw with my thumb behind the trigger.

You may want to try a tru-ball with zero travel. It works mainly on pressure. Only problem is that its a bit noisy.

The HHA Pure-N-Tension is an interesting one. I'm going to get one just to try it out. I have shot it and for me it's worth another look. The cost? Way up there--around $190, but it'll outlast a lot of bows and other things that I buy. Heck, I've got treleases that are older than a lot of guys on here. Like 30 years or so.

I really like the Just Cuz from Carter. But if you're looking for something to hunt with, the finger hole in some of the Carter releases may not allow you to shoot with gloves on. I also have the Tru Ball Chappy Boss with the talon head. It's another great release. Probably more hunter friendly.

I use the carter hunter. It has a wrist lanyard so there isnt a possibility of dropping from your stand. It has improved my shooting ten-fold and me, like you had problems with target panic, but not anymore.
