Will scotch-gaurd work.....?
To waterproof feathers? Last year, I used the waterproofing powder, and although it does work, I am looking for an alternative. I was thinking of misting the feathers with scotch-gaurd. Have any of you done this, and do you think it will work?

RE: Will scotch-gaurd work.....?
It might. I have a can laying around here doing nothing. Guess I'll have to try it and find out one of these days.

Yes, it will work. Hair spray also works. The powder seems too messy for me anyway.

Awesome! Any precautions? Before they are glued on, or after?

I spray scotchguard on my feathers every time I know I'll be out shooting in damp or wet conditions. It'll wear off between applications, so you have to reapply. I'd definitely wait until after they're fletched. I don't know for fact, but it seems logical that the stuff would keep the glue from sticking if you got scotchguard on the quill before gluing it.

What about that spray on silicone boot water-proffer? Too heavy? or just plain wouldn't work?

I've also used dry fly spray but it smells like WD-40 and I didn't like taking that smell into the woods with me.

Use the spray that they sell for the Whisker Biscuit...that's what a local turned me on to. It is scent free once it dries and lasts a long time.
