Another question from the beginner
 

If a two hunters shot and hit a deer at 20 yards ---and all things being equal, where they hit the deer & exit the same---except one had a 50 lb and the other 70 lb bow---what advantage would one have over the other if any?

Then at 30 yards?

70 pounds would hit with a lot more KE (kenetic energy) then the 50 pound bow will at any distance, so if you can pull it back smoothly and accurately i would get the 70 pound bow.

The one with the 70 lb draw would probably have to walk farther to pick the arrow out of the dirt. In either case, all things being equal, the deer would likely be dead.

In the vitals, I would say no difference. If you whack one in the shoulder, the 70 lbs bow would be better than the 50.

exactly!!! both shots in the vitals you got a dead deer. but like what was said in the shoulder shout. you might be in some trouble.

those things happen (shoulder shots) it would be better with a 70lb pull. makes bad hits recoverable!
this is like the old debate is a 7mm mag. to much for deer? only if u like to fallow a blood trail instead of watching the deer fall over!

If they were the same everyone would be shootin 50's. Some things to consider. A 50 is slower than a 70 (depends on setup). So there is more time for things to go wrong with the 50 before they hit the same spot. I think there would be alot of time at 30yrds. Also a 50 would require more pins to get you to 30yrds. meaning more mistakes possible (I use one pin to 30).

Alot of people are very successful with 50's. It's your skill that counts and a good bow set up right, 50 or 70. If you ever think about going after something bigger the 50 won't due.
