How do you guys weigh your arrows?
Do you have to buy one of those little drug dealer scales or is there an easier way??
Thanks. |
RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
Well "drug dealer" scales are what you need but if you dont want to buy your own go to a proshop and im sure they will let you use their scale to weigh your arrows, but if you want your own i think that they run about $60, maybe cheaper im not real sure because i dont weigh my arrows.

RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
What's wrong with going to the manufacturer's site, finding what the arrows weigh(gr.per inch) than adding the weight of your tips? You should be close enough.

drug dealer scales weigh in grams, not grains. get a grain scale.

RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
I just took the grains per inch, and times that by how long my arrows are, added in point weight, nock weight, bushing weight, wrap weight, and my three vanes weight. And I came up with 509 grains!

You can get good weights with the scale shown here.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...ks/link.jhtml? However I've found the calibration lines are not exactly on the mark, but it works good enough for me. |

ORIGINAL: gibblet drug dealer scales weigh in grams, not grains. get a grain scale. 1 grain=64.8 milligrams so it doesn't really matter.......just has to be accurate. I called it a "drug dealer" scale because that is what they look like..........they just call it the "Acrchers friend" or some cute name like that ![]() |
RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
Personally, I get on the scale and weight myself. Then, I get an arrow and hold it in my hand and reweight myself. I subtract. Then convert the differnce into grains. I know it is a little more complicated but what the heck.;)

I just bought one off of e-bay for 39.00 and it should be here any day now .If you use different arrow's quite often then it's probably a good thing to have around .

It would probably be best if you went to your local pro shop or bought a scale. When I shot alum. arrows I never even thought about the weight. When I switched to carbons I wanted to know, so I tried the "adding up the grains per inch and all of the other components method". I found that it was close but not very accurate.
With the help of others on this board I calculated my arrow weight to be close to 570grn. (33in arrow at 12.7 per inch 100grn broadhead, insert, (3) 4in vanes, knoc, glue etc...) When I went to my local pro shop and put them on their scale they were 553grn. Like I said if you want to be in the ball park you can try to add it up but if you want it to be accurate put them on a scale. |

I use a RCBS beam scale,,it's in grains,,but you can calculate to ounce.

RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
I don't weigh my arrows, because the information has limited use. It can come in handy if you plan to push the envelope when shooting light arrows that may be too light. I don't. It may also have some use for target shooters who want to print out sight tapes. Once again, I don't. Typically, using manufacturer provided weights, gets you close enough. In my opinion, it's very important to get that weight towards the front of the arrow, but to do that, you don't have to know the actual weight.
I use to weigh my arrow shafts before building them, but found that I couldn't detect a difference in flight from ones that were only a 5-10 grains difference in weight. Someone shooting at great distances would probably benefit a lot more from this. I also found that some broadheads and even some field tips varied far more than the shafts would. If you do want to weight them, reloading scales work fine. 1 gram = 15.43 grains. |
RE: How do you guys weigh your arrows?
Here are a couple of links that might be helpful to you. The first is Jackson's web sight. Go to the arrow weight and FOC tool to calculate your arrow weight and FOC. I have found them to be very close.
[link]http://www.bowjackson.com[/link] Next is a link to a source for some handy digital scales for weighing arrows and components. Check out the U.S. Bowhunter /US 100 model. It weighs in grains, grams, ounces and troy weight (drams) i believe. I think I gave about $40.00 for mine shipped [link]http://www.perfectscales.com[/link] |
