Binoculars: 8x42 vs, 10x42

I have experience with 8x42 binoculars but I am considering replacing them with 10x42..is there a loss of light/brightness with 10? In which situations would anyone advice against 10x42?

I would appreciate any comments..

Thanks

RE: Binoculars: 8x42 vs, 10x42

SnakeEye, I have two pair of binoculars that I use, 8 x 40's
and 10 x 42's. Here in the midwest, 8x is about as much
magnification as I need, in fact, I've found that the 10x
are too strong in most of the timbered areas where I hunt.
The field of vision is smaller and I've found game more
difficult to pick up in the woods. I mainly use my 10x
while bowhunting out west, where the terrain is more vast
and animals are much farther away. Here at home I will use
my 10x while hunting treestands on the edge of open fields
and I always leave them in my truck for glassing deer and
turkey that I see while driving, but the majority of the
time I use my 8x. Though not a big difference, the 8x
are a bit clearer during low light.

Good Luck
TB
