Help! My bow is WAY TOO LOUD!

I never really paid any attention to how loud my bow is until I started reading the debates on this site about which bow is the quietest. Now it's really bugging me. I have string silencers on my bow and a 7" stabilizer. What else can I do to make it a little quieter? Would those "Limb Saver" things help any?

'Quiet' is pretty relative. I've run across guys who say their bow is 'whisper quiet' then when they shoot, the bow puts out a sonic wave that endangers small aircraft and high profile vehicles. Then I've seen the opposite. People that say their bow is too loud, when you can't hear much of anything except a soft -thoonk-.

But, yes. Limbsavers really do work and take a good bit of vibration and noise out of a bow. The noisier it is, the better they work. Shooting fingers is quieter than shooting release, if your bow is long enough to allow it. You might also consider going to a heavier arrow.

Arthur, how did I know that you would encourage a heavy arrow?
Jeepnut, as Arthur said limb savers will help quite a bit. There are some other Sims products that I have found very useful. One is the stabilizer enhancer. I don't use it, but I know several others that do and their bows are whisper quiet. Others are the cable guard attachments (they are only effective if that is where the noise is coming from), the Enhancer 2000 stabilizer, or the Sims modules. I feel that all of these products are helpful, some moreso than others. If you were to just get the minimum, I would definitely go the the limb savers.

You must be psychic! Maybe I just need to put 'try a heavier arrow' in my signature line so I wouldn't have to type it so blasted often.

Yes, limbsavers work very well. Most use them, regardless of the noise level of their bow. Another thing you may want to look at is how well your bow is tuned. A well tuned bow will inheritantly be quiter. Sometimes you can tell you are heading in the right direction while tuning, because the vibration and noise will get lower. Also, you may want to experiment with different stabilizers. The ones with sims material seem to do a good job.

But yes, definitly get a set of limb savers for your bow, they will help.

Ditto! All good info.

It seems when you do have a quiet bow, when something does start to rattle loose you definitly realize it and can generally find it pretty easy.

I want to know if any Wisker Biscuit users think they are loud? My hunting rig is pretty darn quiet (IMO) but I can clearly hear the arrow rip through the biscuit. Anyone?

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice. I'll stop this evening on the way home & pick up some limb savers & check out what other products Sims has to offer.

Good point about checking for loose parts. This is something I should be doing on a regular basis anyway.

I would never have come up with shooting a heavier arrow but it makes perfect sense. When I consulted the arrow selection chart for my arrows, my setup fell right on the line between two sizes. For whatever reason I chose the lighter ones. Guess I should have rounded up. How will changing to a slightly heavier arrow affect my shooting? I don't want to make any drastic changes this close to the beginning of the season. I've got everything dialed in pretty good right now & if it ain't broke...

When ever I have metal to metal contact between the riser and an accessory, I put moleskin between the contact. A little of the milder lock tite on the screws and you have a rattle-free accessory. I've had some sights that vibrated terribly until I did this. If you're real confident of your settings, a bead of silicone between the riser and accessory will not only keep things very quiet, but will help keep anything from vibrating loose.
