Bowtech Old Glory - what happened?

Just wondering what happened with the Old Glory's IBO rating?

Originally posted at 317-323fps, but now is 307-315fps according to their website, I bought the bow based on the original specs not the new ones.

Guess that explains the 304fps on pdq's BC. A little disappointed [:o]

Well, considering the longer ATA and an additional 1/4" of brace height, I think they may have slightly exagerated the speed claims originally. I think they are more in line now.

Besides, would you rather have a company leave the original speeds even though they are incorrect? Or one who realizes it isn't right and fixes it?

Len in Maryland chronoed both the Allegiance and the Old Glory. Only 5fps difference.

I would not be so quick to write off the original speed numbers. Maybe the website is the mistake. Hopefully Bowtechshooter or Matt/PA will get wind of this and check into it for you. Anyone have a catalog handy to compare it a third time?

PA-

I think the catalog states 323fps as the top IBO as well, not sure what is right.

Catalouge states 315-323.

pdq5oh posted his Chronoed speeds of his OG on AT. They were definately SLOWER than the 323fps max . More along the 318fps max. At 27.5 draw ,50# that is a big hit in performance over what I thought I was going to have, but probably still better than what I would get with another manufacterer if comparing apples to apples.

Went back to recheck the facts.
60# 28 inch draw Allegiance BC = 301
The BC of the Allegiance I looked at was 70# 28 inch draw= 308
60# 29" draw Old Glory BC=304

Yep, might be a typo;) Me might be pleasantly suprized at what we actually get.

I guess this the first time around but it looks like they increased their max draw to 32" vs 31.5" as originally listed, so I'm guessing that is the reason for the drop.

That cannot be correct either. From what I ascertained by the cam numbering system a size 1 cam would equate to a 31.5 inch draw length. A size 5 cam equals a 29.5 inch draw length on the Old Glory and if you continue to count up then it ends up having a size 1 cam equal a 31.5 inch draw length.

Me thinks there are a few typos. ;)

RE: Bowtech Old Glory - what happened?

yes , it was an is a type-o in the catalog. These things happen. The info on the web is correct.
.I mean I had noticed that tha Old Glory had the same speed as the Allegience with four inches longer ata and a greater bh. I new there was a typo for one of the bows. oh well it is still going to be a fantastic bow.

Saw one

String had tied in nocking point above and below the nock, a d-loop, and hush kit.

At 70# and 30" draw:
398 grain arrow
297 fps

Turned down to 61#
same 398 grain arrow
281 fps

Well that definitely puts it in the listed specs when you consider the loss caused by the D loop and tied in nock which would have probably been around 4 fps. You have to admit that is smokin!

Good to hear your bow has arrived. Hope mine gets here soon .

RE: Bowtech Old Glory - what happened?

I read somewhere that BowTech changed the way they rated their bow speeds, that is, the new speeds are now with the hush kit installed. I may be wrong, but I seam to recall reading that somewhere. I believe the reason was they were getting too many complaints from the customers about the bows not reaching the IBO speeds advertised.

RE: Bowtech Old Glory - what happened?

I have not chrono'd mine, just going by the BC. An inch of draw would account for 8 to 10 fps. I won't worry over 4 fps. :)
DLE, glad to hear you're happy with the Old Glory's speed on your bow.

RE: Bowtech Old Glory - what happened?

Also,

Keep in mind Bowtechs speed ratings this year are with knocks and scilencers on the string. Bare sting IBO ratings are actually 5-8 fps faster.

Double,

If you're anything like you me that was one of the few times that were actually glad that you were wrong and happy to admit it:D
