better update
after speaking with a rep at bowtech things have been worked out. i was told the shop i've been going to hasn't had many issues, but they completely understood why i didn't want to go back. we talked about hunting for a while and went over shops i could drive to, to get new limbs. they were very understanding of my situation and heartbreak. i was never impolite, and never raised my voice, and was never anything but friendly. i was also honest and recounted my experience with the shop thus far and my frustration. during our conversation the rep decided to go ahead and overnight a brand new 2005 patriot sc to me. i'm picking it up in the morning and will be hunting (hopefully) tomorrow afternoon. i'll compare the cam and wheel and any other differences between it and the 2004 and if there are any differences i'll post them tomorrow. i'll also post pics if anyone is interested, but i won't bother if no one is. i only have a binocular digital camera, but i can get a decent pic. it just won't be as high quality as some of the pics i see posted. i wonder if anyone else will have a 2005 yet in NC, or if i'll be the first.

RE: better update
Great news Gib.
I am sure you will have the 1st 05 Pat in NC. Good luck with the hunt. |
RE: better update
hey ausie, just curious - i see you're in texas - have y'all ever heard of north carolina down there? (lol)
|
RE: better update
North Carolina, lets see- panthers? Nascar track?
Glad to hear your getting a new Pat after all the trouble you've been through. Let us know how it shoots compared to your 04. |

hey ausie, just curious - i see you're in texas - have y'all ever heard of north carolina down there? (lol) Thats somewhere in Canada isn't it ![]() ![]() |
RE: better update
had to bring up my panthers didn't ya. cowboys, cowboys, cowboys (lol). yep, we're the 30th best team in the nfl, wahoo!!!! stephen davis just had microfracture surgery on his knee. the odds of 2 running backs on the same team playing again after this procedure are astronomical.
lol, canada. :D i'm leaving the house in 11 minutes to go get it. |
RE: better update
got the new 2005 patriot today. its the same as the 04 except the cam and wheel are anondized grey. they are exactly the same though. the n2 module is still black. they are also switching to square washers for the limb bolts but mine are round. it smokes. got it all set up and almost got arrow flight perfect and went hunting, but didn't see anything. maybe tomorrow. left my sims slide on the old bow and won't be able to finish with the arrow flight perfection until i get another one. i need to move the rest a little to the right but fletch clearance with the cable won't allow it. peace out and thanks bowtech. oh, of course i did the complete setup:
doodle drop no peep vbg startrack sims stab. oh, i was informed that bowtech is now obtaining ibo speeds with all the silencing stuff on and that's where the couple feet a sec went. |
RE: better update
Silly thought process with the speed reduction- why hurt your number when no one else is?
Like it or not the fps IBO rating sells a lot of bows when people compare brands and models they are looking at. That explains the speed difference, where did the 1/8" brace height go? |
RE: better update
i should add that i was told by bowtech that the 04 and 05 are essentially the same and by the shop owner the reason for the change in ibo, so take the ibo thing for what its worth.
also, the shop owner shot the bow before i arrived - would this bother you? i kind of wanted to get it out of the box. it was sent for me. |

RE: better update
Im glad to hear things were made right.

RE: better update
I'd be upset that the shop owner even took it out of the box without you being present ,and I wouldn't want him to shoot it either .
I'd sure like to see a pic Gibblet . I told you's guy's in the past that BowTech's customer relation's is second to none and this proves it . Good luck with your new bow Gibblet, let the games begin. Pic Please nubo |
RE: better update
nubo, i'm showering and heading out. hopefully i'll have a pic of it sitting on top of a deer. if not i'll work at getting one up later this evening anyway.
|
RE: better update
well, no deer and pictures have to wait until morning. all i have digital is a cruddy meade binocular/camera combo. no flash and all the pictures are just black. i had to hang it on the porch so i could get far enough away to fit even half of it in a frame (binocular camera's don't take close-ups, at least meade's don't).
On another note, i called S.G. down at bodoodle for his advice on installing the doodle drop, and, by the way, he's the nicest man in the world. after doing it the way he said and moving my rest a bit to the right (i installed the sims slide) i walked out tonight and shot bullet holes, no kiddin. first time ever with a patriot i didn't even have any nock high tear at all. i've never been able to completely get rid of it before and i went through about 5 rests trying, even had a couple different shops work on it and they never could either. i know you could fix it by letting the top limb bolt out, but i never wanted to shoot with an uneven tiller so i let it be. wow, i'm happy! i'll put up some pics tomorrow or mail them to you if i can't figure out how to post them. i was actually wanting to correspond with you (nubo) a little bit about canada. my wife and i wouldn't mind moving there in a couple years. |
RE: better update
Glad to hear it's all set up and shooting bullets.
So how high is your nock point above square? |
RE: better update
davec, while i've used a bow square in the past, and have one, i don't use it anymore. with the doodle drop i've noticed having the nocking pt level doesn't cause any fletching contact, first drop away i've had where this is true. from my last bows i knew to install the body of the rest with its floor about 1/64 above the shelf. i then tie on a loop with the help of my eyeballs, a nocked arrow, and the button holes to as close to level as i can. i've found i can do this by eyeball as well as i can with the bow square. if my nocking pt is above level it is only barely and i mean barely. i won't go past level to tune a bow though (arrow pointing up). if its nock high when level i live with it. if its as close to paper tuning when level, but doesn't group well i'll move it up in small increments until i'm happy. i shoot fixed blades out to 80 yds as we have room out here. from that distance the arrow flies well above my target and i can take a good look at its flight against the green background of the bank. when the arrow flies a perfect arc to the target it really is a thing of beauty.
i paper tuned it last night and will 'group' tune today. really i won't group tune as i'm only shooting broadheads, but i'll shoot spots and then put the group together on paper. i may end up moving up the nocking pt up a bit in the end if its not shooting well level, but as this is the first time its bullet holeing i'm excited to go check things out. i'm gonna go try and take some pics right now and see if they come out. its pretty cloudy, and early so we'll see. i shoot gt 75/95's by the way. i have a 29" draw, shoot 71 lbs., and never could get the 55/75's to tune worth a crud. |
RE: better update
this is the best pic i could get with my cruddy camera. hopefully you can distinguish the grey anondized cams.
05 pat couldn't get the pic to upload, but hopefully the link will point to it. |
RE: better update
Gibblet!
Is that an HHA sight you have on and which one,if so what do you think of it ?I have a Spott Hogg on right now but it doesn't hold the light wporth a darn ,maybe I'll pic up a light for it .I like the sight for 3D but as for hunting near dawn it's not very good ,i have a Impact Archery Cosmic which work's great in low light condition's that I think I'm going to put back on Monday since I've got to work night's all weekend. But I've been thinking of getting a HHA for my next little gadget to add to the list. The pic isn't very good ,but I can make out the anodized cam and wheel ,the bow look's great anyway's ,I might just have to buy a new one the 04 Patriot Dually is getting a little old. LOL I'll be glad to help you out in any way you need ,just ask.Hopefully you'll come to Southern Ont and you can be my new bowhunting buddy .I've got lot's of hunting area's to hunt so you'll be able to hunt with me as long as you are near by. E-mail me anytime I'd be glad to help you's out in any way that I can. nubo |
RE: better update
thanks nubo.
its a vbg startrack. a single pin that you don't have to use tape on the slide with. the slide itself has fiber optic cable with moveable locking bolts that you define your yardages with. pretty cool. plus the fiber optic is glow in the dark. its pretty cool. i had an hha single pin and wouldn't reccomend it for low light. while its plenty bright the aperture is too small and deep and very difficult to see through in very low light. if you use any kind of light with the hha the glow around the pin in the small deep aperture completely prevents you being able to see through it. i like the startrack a lot. it, i learned, does require much less torque when screwing things in and adjusting yardage optics. i stripped one and brandon, at vbg, took excellent care of me and is a really cool guy. even the slide pin has glow in the dark fiber optics. glow in the dark and fiber optic, now why didn't someone think of that earlier. vbg also sells a blacklight sight light which should prevent the glow, but i really don't think it needs any light with the glow in the dark deal. if you're early morning just charge it up before you leave. i gave my cosmic away. the fibers around the sight aperture started rattling and the darn thing was blinding me when i tried to shoot during the day. i even black markered the pin but that dang thing was just too bright for me. never took it hunting, but it sure would suit low light situations. |
RE: better update
Gibblet!
Where could I get one and how much would it cost me ? I don't think that I've ever heard of that sight ,I'm not sure . But it look's great. nubo |
RE: better update
they are $119 or something close to that. i actually ordered mine online because they were all gone from the shops around here that carried them.
startrack photo i took this from www.vitalbowgear.com i don't remember who i ordered it from, but i remember searching the internet for deals. |
RE: better update
Thank's for the info Gibblet,I'm gonna check and see if i can find one off of e-bay .
nubo |
RE: better update
remember what i said about less torque when installing it. especially with the yardage markers. they use semi hard plastic washers that compress and really grip and take quite a bit less torque than metal ones. the yardage markers, which is what i stripped one of, really don't feel tight when they are, or i should say it doesn't take much to keep them from moving or rattling. in fact the one i stripped, i put a little thread lock on the screw, and it hasn't slipped at all in the housing and makes no noise. i hope you're happy with it because you're probably the nicest guy on here and i'd hate to steer you wrong.
