Crossbow help
Please don't start bashing me! I have been a member of this board for a few years and shot bows until I tore a rotator cuff a few weeks ago. My doc said if I take care of my shoulder there is a chance it will heal without going under the knife and I just may be able to shoot my conventional bows at less poundage by early summer.
I laid up my new Xtec that I love so well and bought a Barnett Revolution 150# crossbow. It shoots well enough but it is louder than the old Bear Whitetail I started with many moons ago. Is there anything I can do to tone down the racket? I have been doing my own bow work from making strings and arrows to complete set ups for years but this crossbow is a differant breed! Anything I should or shouldn't do? I know it will be noisy but there has to be somthing I can do. I have a set of Limbsavers ordered and if they work as well as they do on my bows they will help some. Where should I start? |

RE: Crossbow help
My wife shoots a revolution also. I usually hunt about a hundred yards from her ground blind but I always know when she shoots because I can hear it loud and clear even that far away. So I would also be interested in methods to quiet one down.

RE: Crossbow help
Sims makes a silencing kit for crossbows. I believe it consists of a set of Ultra Limbsavers, two sets of string leeches and some form of cable slide dampener. This should help considerably. The reason I say this is because I also purchased a Barnett...the RC 150....to use after Christmas during our muzzleloader season. It isn't as loud as the Revolution or Rhino Sport Mag to begin with but I did slap on two sets of limbsavers...a set of Ultras on the inside of the limbs in the typical spot...and a set of mini-limsavers on the outside of the limbs right next to the stirrup. Both sets together definitely made a difference on the noise level.
Hope this helps. |
