05's best for hunting so far.
Now that a good bit of the 05's are out, what from a spec standpoint strikes you as the most interesting "NEW" offering for a hunting bow. So far for me I'd say the Hoyt Sabertech and for Bowtech the Defender and the Tomcat.
Boy I tell you I wish someone would make a parallel limb 30 ATA with an 8+" braceheight, with a true IBO around 305. |
RE: 05's best for hunting so far.
Justice VFT??? Close enough anyway.

RE: 05's best for hunting so far.
You know that's a good point, if they just put the infinity cam on the Justice to kick up the speed a little, that would probably have done it.

RE: 05's best for hunting so far.
Yeah, and they could call it the Mighty Mite!;)
I'm not into the shorty bows so much. I really like the looks of the Bowtech Old Glory.:D |

RE: 05's best for hunting so far.
See that's the thing, I think for that short a bow you need a taller brace height than 7.5, the Justice or the Tomcat for me would be preferable to the MM. I'm talking strictly hunting here.

No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
Most interesting new hunting bow to me has to be the new Moon bow discussed at Archery Talk.
It is made from a milled 85lb block of aluminum and is supposed to be extremely flex resistant and hell for strong. It will have superb Ultra Carbon Barnsdale limbs and other top components. It's supposed to have a World War II anodized Type 3 Ultra Hard Coat finish that rates 90 on Rockwell scale. Dipped finishes are a joke, compared to this finish ! Type 3 finish is so hard, you can draw a file across it and leave dust from the file to wipe off the bow ! No hunting bow on the planet is half as interesting as this bow !!! Don't know if I would pay $2,000.00 for one but it sure is interesting. ;) Sag. |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
The new Diamond Triumph sounds like a speedy little hunting bow with a tall brace height for $499.99 MSRP.

RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
Buckfevr..
I think they were trying to tell you that the MM and the Justice are the exact same bow.. w/ different cams. The extra 1/2" of brace height w/ the Freedom cam is due to the larger diameter idler and cam as opposed to the smaller diameter Infinity cam/idler... just like the Liberty is a Patriot w/ the Freedom cam... |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
KBacon,
Thanks for the clarification, I didn't realize they were the same except for the cam. Well then I guess I understand why the specs are as they are. This is a very efficient way to offer a more forgiving bow and a bit faster bow, by just offering the same bow with different cams. Plus they needed to thread the difference, not making the Justice too slow, means that the brace height on the MM will have to come in a little lower. It's also interesting from a marketing standpoint, and maybe I was the only one that didn't realize they were the same bows but nevertheless by giving different names for instance to the Justice and the MM each of the bows develop their own brand equity. |

RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
I don't think it was an infomercial myself....I have followed some news about that bow with interest as well. I'll never buy one, myself, as now matter what it says a 40+"ATA bow is too long for my style of hunting and location but the guy really seems to know his stuff, done a lot of research and is trying to do one thing and one thing only....
Make the most dependable, rugged and durable, accurate and maitenance free bow possible. Of course the $ will reflect that and it's waaaay out of my range but for a guy that buys 3-4 bows for a lifetime or the collector or....Sagg;):D ...it may be an groundbreaker. That being said....the Allegiance looks smokin' to me with all the attributes that fit my personal specs... 34-36" brace 7+ brace 315+IBO ease of tune and a string that doesn't suck flat back grip and the quality assurance of Bowtech's customer support. To quote the cliche...can't touch this:D Does the Saber have the machined Alum or is it the cast stuff from the ultra mag etc?? |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
Bowfanatic,
Glad you got a laugh but I was quite serious. I'm not getting a dime for the information or a discount on the bow. ;) To me, it will be one hell of a bow. The price may be dropped somewhat before it's released. If I didn't already own 3 Accu-Risers and a couple Merlins, I would probably buy one. It is, imo, without doubt, the most interesting new bow on the horizon. Sag. |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
I've had several conversations with Jim, the guy making the bow, and he definitely knows his way around a bow. What many fail to realize is that it isn't his goal to become the next mathews or bowtech, but to produce the absolute best bow possible as a culmination of his years in building/tuning/frankensteining the ultimate hunting bow.
If he ever produces one in the ATA range I prefer, I'd give it a hard look, as it should easily last one a lifetime. |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
Sorry Sag , I wasn't implying anything , it just came across as funny to me.
I think it was the way you wrote it. I'd bet you could sell a ketchup popsicle to a bride in a white dress.:D |
RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
Bowfanatic,
Yeah, I'm a pretty good salesman but a ketchup popsicle ? [:'(] ;) I have helped Stewart sell quite a few Accu-Risers over the years and steered a few Merlin fans to my old pal Pinwheel 12. Maybe I go overboard on the details but when I believe in a product, I study it from top to bottom and find out all I can about it. Actually, could have told a lot more about the Moon bow. But the full story is available at AT for those interested further. ;) Sag. |

RE: No contest, the Moon bow is the most interesting Hunting Bow.
The best looking hunting bows I've seen for 05 are the Allegiance, Defender, and Old Glory. These offer the newest technology when it comes to the cams, and they're built on proven risers. Coming from BowTech, you know these bows are going to be true performers, no matter which one you choose. The speed looks good, and all 3 bows seem like they would be very forgiving and accurate as long as you do your part. I mentioned all 3 bows because some like shorter hunting bows, while others like mid-length bows, and other people like long bows.
Now that my "infomercial" is over, good shooting to all. Timba |
