Proper Vane Placement

Hi,
Just recently got back into bowhunting after a 3-season layoff and am making up some 2117's with 5" vanes. How far from the 'throat' of the nock should the rear of the vane be?

Some have said 1" from deepest point of nick slot. That seems a tad close to the rear to me, especially shooting fingers.

What do you guys measure on your arrows?

Hey Scoobie,
I'm shooting Goldtip 5575's with 4" feathers. Mine seem to be about 1 1/2" from the nock point. This seems like it would give enough room for your fingers, but your archery pro shop would be able to tell you exactly where you need them.

I usually put the back of the fletch 3/4" from the end of the shaft for more control however some folks like them farther up the shaft for a little more clearance I would not go more than 1 1/2" up from the end of the shaft, even shooting fingers, including the nock is more than plenty of clearance IMO I would not go more than 1" even shooting fingersbecause the farther back the fleth is the sooner the arrow will recover from the paradox.

I put mine right at an inch from the throat of the nock. Plenty of clearance for fingers shootin', even with a thick glove. If I only shot release, I'd move 'em back to 3/4".
